1978 Merc 1500 V6 Black Max
I have a 150 black Max (78) that was running fine. Was crusing on the water around 5200 rpm and all the sudden, sounded like I dropped a couple of cylinders and could only get around 3000 rpm w.o.t
I checked compression and have 125 on all 6 cylinders, Spark on all 6 as well. I changed the plugs and checked the wires. With the enigne running on a hose at light throttle it will intermittently miss but mainly sounds like it's running on four. It's hard to locate which four because I'm unable to put load on it. Any ideas?

Thanks, guy's it was the stator. I replaced it with a used one I have and located one of the yellow wires severly corroded. Also observed some glue looking stuff on the stator itself. Running good again, except I jacked with the timing screw while attempting to diagnose this problem. How do you check timing on this old beast and what;s the spec?
