Smartcraft Fuel Alarm
I'm receiving a water in fuel alarm on my SC1000 monitor. I drained the tank on the motor (almost no water) and still got the alarm. Tried a master reset and still getting the alarm. Tried unpluging the sensor on the fuel tank, still getting the alarm. Motor is a 225 Opti (new 6 hours) and runs as sweet as can be...except for the alarm. Am I missing something, thanks for any help.

Forgot to mention, I also changed the filter in the boat.

Water Level Sensor
Sounds like this could be your problem, depending on your year model it located in the VST or in the spin on fuel filter attatched to the VST, either way drain the VST checking for water, you could also try disconnecting the sensor to verify your problem. VST mounted sensor is located at the bottom front of the VST its a two wire connector, the filter mounted one is in the bottom of the filter single wire. If this doesn't solve your problem it may be a smartcraft rigging problem.
Good Luck.

I was thinking it was the sensor as well, however I unplugged the 2 wire sensor and the alarm was still active. I forgot to add it is not an audible alarm, its just an alarm indicator on the smartcraft Sc1000 monitor.

Check Voltage
With the sensor disconnected turn the ignition on and check for voltage at the plug, go from ground to the two terminals, i think the colours are green and black if i remember correctly, the black wire should have zero volts and the green should have around 5 volts DC i think, i will have to check this out, if you do not have 5v this means the sensing wire is shorted to ground somewhere and causing your alarm. Don't forget to use a good quality digital multimeter on the correct scale. Do you have a DDT if so you can use this to determine exactly which sensor/circuit is giving you trouble.
Good Luck.

I will follow the wires back to see if there is a ground problem and probably get the sensor replaced ( $22.00 part US.) Thanks alot for the help. Its really great to be getting info from the other side of the planet !

Did some Testing
I checked it out today on a 115 opti, but the testing is the same as your 225, just my colours were a little off, the green and black wires are the sensor side of the connector, the other side of the connecter the side that leads back to the PCM changes colour, Black with Orange trace (Ground) and i forget the other colour but this wire should have 5v DC (i tested it out today and the readings were as i descrbed earlier). The sensor should not be an issue it has two probes that are exposed to fuel in the VST and when water gets in the VST it shorts the the two probes sending the signal back to the PCM that there is Water in the Fuel, so when disconnecting the sensor the PCM does not (or should not) see the signal, unless there is a short between the PCM and the Water Sensor connector, this is why we are checking for 5v to determine weather there is a short or not. I should add that you should have the ignition off before disconnecting the sensor.
Yeah thats pretty cool about the other side of the planet thing!!!
Anyway hope this helps
Cheers

I have a similar alarm, Initially it will be a continuous tone when I start the boat, lasts for 10-20 seconds, then stops, but the fuel icon and the bell icon flash continuous, Drained filters, unplugged sensors, drained water seperator etc. to no avail. If you figure it out please post up as I would like to squash this little bug as well..... 2001 300x.

DDT Very Useful
Best thing to use is the DDT if you can get your hands on one it can tell you pretty much exactly whats causing the alarm. I would try disconnecting the oil tank sensor on the engine and temperarily bridge the two wires (harness side), if this is your problem you may have to get a new tank as the floats in them go bad at times, and this may also cause limitted power, guardian (whilst you have the fault). If this does not work you could also do the 5v check as desribed earlier on the single wire on the spin-on filter on the VST.
Good Luck

Hi Guys
This is my first post so bear with me if I sound like an Idiot.
I just went through a similar sounding nightmare with a 300x I just bought. All of the sensors checked out and the ddt showed nothing. The service manual said to change filters and we did to no avail.
Turned out that somehow I had messed up the programming in the smartcraft with regards to the fuel capacity and the range, once we reprogrammed that, end of problem.
Ps two dealers tryed to find this, and nothing, we figured it out using a programming manual that we borrowed.
Good Hunting

I'm having this problem on my starboard 2001 300x engine. I picked up some bad gas while visiting Bay City, MI a few weeks ago. I emptied the water separator a few times and only found water in it the first time. Since then, I've run another 50 gallons of fuel through this engine without issue. Last week, I connected a Rinda TechMate and saw the water in fuel fault, then cleared it. But, the fuel and alarm icons continue to flash. Today, I replaced the separator and sensor with new ones. I verified with the TechMate that the fault is no longer there, so I don't understand why the gauge still shows a problem. The port engine also had the alarm go off, but it cleared out just fine after emptying the separator. Any ideas?

This appears to be a Smartcraft bug. I got to wondering if changing the Smartcraft settings would have an impact. I simply went in and changed a Cal2 variable and reset the gauge. The fuel and alarm icons were no longer flashing. Then, I changed that variable back to original, reset, and the icons were still not there. It's as though memory wasn't properly cleared.
