Question Evolution Marine Stage four 2.7 OMC

A friend is looking at buying the motor in question.I am looking for any input on this motor. It has finger ports and other mods but also a special "direct flow" manifold with billet reed cages and motorcycle reeds?Does anyone have any experience
    with this motor?

Marvin's intake and reed cages were designed in conjunction with Taylor way back. The two had some sort of falling out and no longer collaborate. Wayne has greatly improved his parts over the last couple of years with input and feedback from racers like Stringfield, Martini and Bush. Check with Al but all the Catrett motors I saw had really radical port timing that gave up lots of torque on the bottom for very little gain over 8000 rpm. Marvin also sometimes tried to crutch this bottom end power loss with really big compression which when combined with high rpm on a looper means be careful especially with the cast factory pistons. I would do a leakdown test, pull the heads to inspect/size the bores, and verify what it has for pistons before buying it. Every owner I ever spoke to had stuck their motor at least a couple of times.
