    Cee Bee Avenger`s

Anyone out there have the skinny on Avenger Boat`s. Any rot or transom issues? Were they a decent go fast boat? I did notice a fairly low max hp. rating on the 18ft. at 150. Thanks in advance.

there was a guy in here a while back selling one, nice looking from what I remember. Do a search and see if that turns up anything. I do remember them, I want to say a 17 or 18 footer, it was kinda like a Mod-VP bottom, and I would say " YES " for that era it was a pretty fast boat, real nice lines on it too. I know ones that had more than a 150 hung of the back that ran well into the 80's.

the old avenger boats are too heavy, jets and outboards and the transoms rotted out from not sealing properly, the boat is a good lake boat with smooth gel finish not a ripple in it marvins

Bruster, I had one just like that a few years back. I was in the process of putting a new floor, transom, and stringers in it when we ended up moving into an apartment. Had to get rid of the boat. I sure miss it though. Built like a battleship. And no core to mess with either. Great lookin boat IMHO!

The ones Iv'e seen have a fairly flat bottom so I wouldn't think it would be very fast. On the other hand they are a good looking boat with a great seating arragement.

Here's a link to my Avenger restoration. This is a 17' Model 165, also called a Mach II. Tonight I just got my '87 Merc 115 "stack" installed on the transom. Can't talk about the performance yet; maybe around the 4th of July I'll have a comment on it's performance. I mounted the engine 3 bolt holes up. When I noticed that Bruster had his 1500SX with the short leg mounted directly to the transom (the cav. plate must have been at least 4" about the bottom of the boat) I figured I could safely mount mine a little high.

    Oddly enough....
I was looking for an article in my old Hotboat magazines a few days ago
and remembered seeing an article on the CeeBee Avenger.
Although the boat featured is an inboard, there is possibly
some information that you might find useful.

anyone have any feedback on the type of prop you are running with a standard setup and what you get for RPM and max speed?

I have a 2.0L 1981 Black max on my Avenger 183 model and i'm looking to put a new prop on for better waterskiing pull. I have a 21'' on it right now (3 blade).

I know someone that has a 17''pitch and it does more than 60MPH....must be over-revving like crazy though.

any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have tried MANY props on my Model 165. I now have a 1987 Merc XR2 150, 2.0L with 7" of set back, and a jack plate. I don't have a low water pick up so I run it as high as it will go before sucking air. I've also plugged the top 3 holes in the lower. With this set up - I don't even know how many props, a lot of them - the best top speed I've achieved is 73.6 at 6400 rpm using a Mercury Laser II 27P. This is FIRMLY the best speed I've achieved with my set-up.

thanks for your feedback. I've heard that these 2.0L Black Max engines do like to rev high. The red-line is 5800 so I'm probably leaving HP on the table by not getting it to that level or beyond.

I've seen you restoration pics...nicely done. You should post a few more pics of the finished product sitting in the water. That's a cool boat.
