Tracing serial number???
I'm trying to find out wether the part number I have for a Merc engine is the model I'm after. Is there somewhere on the net where all the serial numbers and deatils for that model are listed??
I'm after a 7 reed 91mdle 2.5L 200 Merc.
I have a lead on an engine which has the serial number 022121 and I want to know if its the right year.
I realize I could open the throttles and count the peddals but the engine is on ebay and I cant get to it.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

Thats not the serial number. The Serial number is located on the freeze plug on the top of the motor and will start with an 0Gxxxxxx or possibly another later depending on the year.

freeze plug numbers???
On my 2.4 200 I have found the ser. # on the freeze plug. Question I have is this. I purchased another 2.4 200 on E Bay with 1 piece heads that the guy used the lower unit off of.The powerhead was supposedly rebuilt before he bought it. The freeze plug only says 200 No ser # on it. Would this be a factory reman powerhead? Anyone?
