CeeBee Avenger Project: See link!

Hi everybody! I have been working on restoring a 1977 17' CeeBee Avenger Mach II, aka Model 165. I started back in December and I'm still working on it. I have posted a lot of pictures at a Photobucket site. Here is the link. If you are interested take a look and tell me what you think. Thanks!

my first boat was a 16 avenger with a 1500xs. Lots of good memories with that boat. just a thought but since youre glassing everything over try adding a pad to the bottom. they're a handfull at 65mph. good luck with it. a 14x24p chopper works good with 8" of set back

Thanks for the reply. I don't think I'm going to be approaching speeds of 65. I'm mounting the motor on the transom up a couple of bolt holes, and the first prop I'm going to try is a 22p Laser II. I need to be able to ski with it, and go fast.

Add a pad? You mean, make the pad that's already there extend down more? Sounds like a lot of work. I think I'll leave "well enough alone" for awhile; until I can get it on the water and see what she does. If she does 55 with the set-up described above, and has good hole shot, I'll be happy. Well... for NOW... at least.

Im not sure about the bottom on yours but the bottom on mine was more rounded it did not have a flat pad. the rest of the boat looks exactly the same. i think mine was a 76

hey guys
my uncle had a 16 avenger a couple years back
he cut the back end off and rebuilt it
it was rock hard after that
he had a 140 evinrude and on its best day it would run 73 on speedo not gps.
his had a flat pad on it from the factory
great boat he wishes that he never got rid of it!

oh yeah the mistake he made was single cable steering and no hot foot
that thing was f@##$ scary

Yeah, it has a flat pad. The pad just doesn't extend down, like an upside-down mesa like the pad on a Hydrostream does. It's about 8" wide. If I get a chance I'll take a pic of the bottom and post it.

BTW, csd23, what year was the 140 'Rude on your uncle's boat? Was it a cross-flow or looper?

There is a 20' Cee Bee Avenger that is still being made.

I'm not totally sure but i believe it was a looper and a '76.
Now that I've seen the pictures of yours, his avenger didn't look the same. I believe that his boat was made by avenger and not an avenger model of a ceebee.

1977 avenger 454 chevy, berkly jetdrive, my buddy had one with tunnel ram, roller cam, and ran well, about 90 ...in 1977....till a 20 foot hydrostream blasted him broadside and blew a gapping hole in the side at oak beach inn in 1977, that was the end of the avenger....was a pretty boat, blue flake, silver..

Hey, I've added some new pics. It's getting close to being done. Once I get it back I'm going to turn the red metal flake into bright yellow with red pinstriping using Interlux Brightside. All things being equal, I'd like to keep the red metal flake, but the gelcoat's gone and it's toasted. Too much $$ to re-gel it. Then, I need to re-wire it (a job that scares me since electornics are not my strong suit) and rig the outboard. I'm going to mount my '87 Merc. 115 up two bolt holes, mounted directly on the transom, and run a 22P Laser II to start with. See how it runs and go from there.
