This is directed at rckid74:

I see some of your early Internal Correspondence related to the V6, is dated early 1970. I think ECK left Mercury in 1969. Was the idea of a new engine design held back until after ECK left? I assume he was very proud of his Inline Engines, except maybe the I6 1500 which didn't come out until 73.

I Have no way of knowing the answer to that question. I will say that I had heard of an experimental V engine that mercury had build back a number of years before which had failed because of cooling problems. If that's true then it would show that ECK was not adverse to introducing a V just because that was the OMC configuration.

you should put the contents of the book on here. that way everyone will know what we had to do to test these engines for release to the public, that shouldn't take you to long.

...omc's first v-4 came out in 1958. it was 50 horsepower. many years prior to that, kiekhaefer manufactured a v-motor that was 100 horsepower...

My dad had a 50 hp V four OMC I think it was a Johnson but I can’t truly remember it was on an old 16 foot Glenn craft boat made by Eddie Glenn and his shop off of NW. North River Dr. and 32nd Ave. in Miami. It seemed like a huge motor to a kid of 12 I think mercury had the in line Mark 75H again I cannot remember
