    transom repair advice needed

My boat has an aluminum plate on both sides of transom. When new, it didn't and offset mount dug into transom, thus the last owner adding outside plate. Well, that plate is being replaced and I want to do some 'glass work on it before reinstalling. Suggestions are welcomed.

    inside looks fine....plate and wood.
    Best regards,
    David

if the plate is digging into the gel, it sounds like the tramson could be rotten. if so you need to replace it.

here's my suggestion and if search this the attached site there is another method.

    http://www.hydrostream.org/ArticleArchives/Transom.htm

but you need to put the plate back again with this method.

Laveycraft clarified what happened to mine (and others they sold). The offset bracket tends to dig in at the bottom since outboards pull from upper part of mount and dig in on lower. Later on, plates were installed to spread the load out. Mine was retrofitted. I will further investigate the wood and glass over damaged area. New plate made.
    Best regards,

thank God I didn't do that... just scuffed up outside skin, cleaned it, then glasssed over cracks. Wood in good shape, new plate had edges sealed to transom with Marine Goop and looks fantastic.
