Hey matt, very impressed with the backyard vacuum bag work, very nice looks like it's coming along very well, would love to see it some time. Keep up the good work.

Well it was going good for a while, then I took a break to do some house projects and get in shape for soccer. Two weeks ago I blew out my knee in a game, so I've now got plenty of time but I can't bend my leg to get down and work on the boat. At this point I can't even move the motorcycle out of the way to get to the boat.
My wife has volunteered to mow the lawn but I don't see her getting the gloves on and doing laminations.
I'll probably have surgery in a couple weeks, so this project will sit until after summer.
That first vacuum job on the hull wasn't a complete success, I didn't have enough thickened resin under the area to fill all the gaps from the old core, which was a different shape. Lack of planning on my part. It sucked all the resin away from the edges so I had to grind it back a bit. I'll have a better setup for the flat sections further aft.
I could probably work on the back seat in the mean time, its a smaller part that is easier to move around. Just haven't been making it a priority, with two other boats I don't NEED to get it done.78 Hydrostream Vandal - under restoration here: VANDAL RESTORATION THREAD

It's always trial and error, it seems to be going ok now. Really sorry to hear about the knee, hope it's not that bad and you recover quick. I'm sure it'll get done in good time. I too had to redo my littleboat last year so the action had to sit, working on it now and hope to get it done sooner than later. Take it easy on that knee.

I'm about to get back to it. Had surgery in June, still working through rehab, but I'm able to do a lot of things now. Finished up some home projects so I'm going to get to work on the Vandal again.
I cut some patterns out of foam for the back seat but haven't done any of the glasswork. I'll get some pics of that process up, it is essentially a wider version of the front seat.
I need to get the cradle on some casters and shim it so the hull is square. Dragging the whole mess in and out of the garage to work on it has pulled it all out of alignment, and it was too hard to move anyways.
I've gone back and forth on how to rebuild the deck. I think I'm going to just do a simple flat structure for now and then put some kind of contoured windscreen over the top.
I'm committed to keeping this project from upsetting the applekart so it always gets pushed to the back-burner. Some time this winter I need to put a new floor and casting deck on our fishing boat too.78 Hydrostream Vandal - under restoration here: VANDAL RESTORATION THREAD

A couple weeks ago I got the trailer sorted, moved the hull to the trailer, and fixed up the hull cradle and added dollies.
Taking a few weeks off around Christmas & New Year's, going to spend a good chunk of time on it then.78 Hydrostream Vandal - under restoration here: VANDAL RESTORATION THREAD

I can sympathize with ya on the surgery stuff..just had sugery on my guts December 9th and it's been an ugly recovery so far...PAIN!! It's gonna keep me from boating (or even working on boats for a while) as I can't handle the bounces, bending, cleaning, loading, unloading, etc. etc. Hopefully I'll be back by end of January...

Made some progress over break. Not as much as I had hoped, but I got a ton of non-boat related stuff done too.
Things I learned:
-The grey vacuum sealant tape isn't nearly as good as the yellow stuff
-Cool weather makes it easy to work the epoxy, no rush
-Cold evenings make the epoxy run, takes forever to set
-Stretchy bag material is worth the money for complicated portions
-Divinycell won't bend even when you score the crap out of it
What I accomplished:
-Cut patterns for the back seat, scored them, then broke them at the score lines
-Laid inner skin on the core forward of the bulkhead
-Bedded forward section of core on both outer sides of the stringer
-Cut and laminated underside of rear section of floor
-Bedded in and glassed over backing pads for the bow and stern eyes78 Hydrostream Vandal - under restoration here: VANDAL RESTORATION THREAD
