looks great!Nice work!My question:Are the knees close enough to allow the transom bolts etc.? when you mount the engine?
    why ask me ?

Its 7" to the outside of the knees, 9-7/8" on center for the bottom bolts of a BIA pattern. I need to keep the fillets small from the transom to the knees, but it'll fit. It was much more simple to index the nees against the side of the pad than to build some separate ones.

I've been able to take a good chunk of time over break to work on the boat. Making some good progress now and I've gotten past most of the learning curve.

Since I couldn't find locally all of the bagging supplies I needed I started working on the deck, which has basically been sitting in the side yard since I started this project. Did a bunch of grinding to clean it up and prep for bonding back together. Also ground down around all the openings to prep for rebuilding the dash, splashwell, and filling in all the holes.

The splashwell is filled in with a flat panel of Renicell. It is glued to the remaining flat section. Tomorrow or Sunday I'll glass it solid from the back-side, my back was hurting enough after all the grinding I gave up to watch football this afternoon

Dad picked up the peel-ply and breather, but since we couldn't find bag by the yard I just used some visqueen I had left over from a house project. So far it seems to be working fine. I cut out and beveled some Divinycell for the forward deck core, two thicknesses to make an inch total height. I considered leaving this out altogether for weight savings, but chances are someone will step on the deck around the dock. The foam weighs next to nothing and it'll probably use around 10oz of resin.

I borrowed a neat vacuum generator from a co-worker who does veneers (DIY plans can be seen at www.joewoodworker.com ). The compressed air source connects to a solenoid valve before going into the generator. It is switched by an adjustable controller and pulls vacuum into two PVC reservoirs. The bag connects to the reservoirs. I used the West rubber vacuum cup. The bag was set to 15 in-Hg. With a couple small leaks it pulled air about every 20 seconds, cycling between 12 and 16 in-Hg. The compressor cycled about every 15 minutes. After a trial run with no glue I epoxied the bottom layer to the hull with some thickened epoxy, then the top layer to the bottom, and pulled the bag tight. I didn't put any glass over or under the foam, I'll hand-lay the inner skin.

Not pictured but I also glassed the knees to the transom, two layers of biax tape on each fillet, plus two layers of biax cloth around each knee.

More progress. Pulled the bag off of the deck support and glassed it in, two layers of 45-45 biax. The same on the under-side of the splashwell board, filleted up to the rear coaming, and wrapped around to the angled sides. Still need to fill the gaps and glass the top-side, but I think it came out pretty well.

Now that I've got the bagging figured out I'm going to start on the hull core, from fwd to back. Still need to rebuild the dash too.

Edit: won't let me add pics for some reason.

Matt, The work looks great! Looks like it won't be long now.
OK, I got down off the porch and ran with the big dogs....kinda sore now....think I'll just lay here in the flowerbed for a while...

    Very impressive work!
You southerners, it must be so nice to work outdoors in the off season. What are you using for bagging material?

I got a sunburn working on it on Friday. Had to take a break Saturday to take my dad's boat on a 100 mile trip across Lake Okeechobee.

For bag I ended up using some clear visqueen type material that I had laying around the house. No idea what it is. The yellow gooey bag tape is really sticky, I'm going to need a lot more of that stuff.

You can get it at Home Depot, just ask for strip caulking.

    Hey Jeff--

What is this off season of which you speak?

Ran about 105 miles on Biscayne Bay on Monday, Dec. 29, and then the run with Matt and Jen on Jan. 5 for another 100 miles.
    Per Rock:

Had an open weekend so got back to it.

I bagged down the first section of running surface core, two panels forward of the bulkead up in the bow. The core I'm using is ATC core-cell. Its an SAN foam, perforated for bleeder holes. It lets the air get out from under the core and out the bag, and also holds little columns of epoxy. You can see the little dots where the resin has seeped up from underneath.

Under the core I put one layer of 1708, mat-side down. The hull sking is aweful thin in some areas, and I punctured it in 3 spots with the air chisel. I'm going to use it everywhere I lay core. Adds a bit of weight but also a lot of peace of mind.

I also cleaned up the panel in the splashwell area and laid two layers of biax wet-on-wet.
