Still haven't really made time to work on the boat, but summer is winding down so I'll get back to it soon.

I did manage to find a good deal on a trailer. 90% of our use is in salt water, so Aluminum is a must. The old steel trailer went to the dump on the back of the Eliminator's old steel trailer earlier this year. In fact the big trailer broke in half on the way there, leaving a scar along the road (coincidentally 2nd of 3 trailer scars we've left...).

Anyways, only a few years old with good tires, only a little rust on the axle & springs, new bearings & hubs, for $500. Did a quick test fit and got the boat out of the garage, only needs a little adjustment.

Lotta people in your area looking to get back into racing this class of hulls. Looks like you got it going on...spend winter finishing it up and race that thang!...Vandals pracaticallly turn themselves...as evidenced in MN in the TCPBA. http://forums.screamandfly.com/forum...=165989&page=2 please read that thread and contact the people involved. Turn your family me,mory into a future champion. The people in that that thread speak from years of experience and if you completely restore this boat....it can be either a play thing on the lake or a great race machine in the class they are considering in trying to resurrect in FLA. Just food for thought...but I'd love to see some Vandals run down south.

Thanks for the link - sounds interesting if the class can get off the ground.

Summer's winding up and the possibility of this VP75 class has me a little motivated.

Spent some time cleaning up the boat last week and brought it back inside. By Sunday night I had laminated in the transom and tabbed in the fwd bulkhead.

The transom is 3x 1/2" Renicell, the bulkhead is 1/2" H80 Divinycell. All done with SilverTip epoxy.

    Transom:
-Wet coat the transom, lay in some fillets all around
-Pre-wet 1708 and lay down with ~3" overlap around motorboard
-Pre-wet 9oz 0-90 biax and lay down with ~3" overlap past the 1709
-Some additional fillet where the transom board fillets are, then thickened epoxy spread on the transom.
    -Clamp transom in place.

    Bulkhead:
-It is just cut to size and glued in place, still needs to have gaps filled, filleted, and taped.

Clamped-in motorboard, cured overnight, and a large view. The VP class lets you set the driver back pretty far, I don't think I want to move the dash that far back.

All the transom work was done wet-on-wet to get good inter-laminate bonds.

Just to let you know...both my pals in Vandals come in at about 1020 lbs or so when weighing in. They both weigh about 185 themselves. Dunno if there's anywhere to cut any more weight when you are restoring.

Do you (or they) have a breakdown - Hull, rigging, motor, driver + gear? Comp or rebuilt hulls, or original plywood & balsa-cored? Mine was all soaked.

I'm using all foam, but I'm being a bit conservative when it comes to amount of reinforcement & resin.

My dad was thinking this may be an issue. The 13' Allison, Critchifield, Delta are all a lot less boat. Vandal is 14'6" with a lot more frontal area / volume than the others.

No breakdown weights. The floors have basically been removed down to the stringers. I think without the drivers/jacket/helmet they run around 850-860 lbs. The rear flotation on one was replaced (waterlogged)

Getting small jobs done when I can.

I've glassed in the inside skin of the transom (2X 12oz 45/45 and 1X 12oz 0/90). I think it came out pretty clean, the fillets laid down really well. It was a complex blend due to the variable thickness of the molded-in motorboard area.

Taped and then glassed over the fwd bulkhead.

Cut and fit the knees, next up is gluing them in.

    Making good progress now.

Dad came up over the weekend and we were able to glue in the renicell knees and the divinynicell stringers. The stringers run forward from the knees to the bulkhead, following the curve of the hull. They are glued to the bottom and outside edge of the pad. The original floor stopped at the flat portion, about 18" short of the bulkhead.

We cut out and used the ATC core-cell which will be the pad core in order to hold the stringers in place while the epoxy set. A layer of wax paper prevented any epoxy from getting on the core material. It held the stringers in place snug against the sides, and a piece of scrap the same width was used in the front.

Everything is just tacked in place, some gaps will be filled when the epoxy fillets and glass are put in. This will be at the same time as the running surface core is bagged down to the hull.

The stringers were also left about a 1/4" tall to be trimmed to match the floor height later.

The Photos Don't Do Justice To That Transom...

Matt's fibreglass work is amazing. Every one of those compound curves is tight, and the glass over the foam is wonderfully clean-you can feel the grain of the cloth. He is doing a wonderful job on our old boat!
