More than one way to skin a cat: http://www.mnvp-racing.com/vp/MediaG...reconstruction
Link posted in another thread by "litnin" , boat is being restored for VP racing in Minnesota. Lots of good rebuild pics.
-Plywood transom (replace from inside? looks like deck and splashwell remained in place)
-Balsa core, full width chine-to-chine
-4X Plywood stringers, on top of core, with knees.
-Looks like a mix of biax and mat, not sure on resin
Biggest question for me when I considered this class was how to build a robust support for the required rollbar. It needs to be tied to some significant structure, and there isn't much there. I don't think the class will take off in FL, so I'm not building around the rules.78 Hydrostream Vandal - under restoration here: VANDAL RESTORATION THREAD

matt, this my second time reading this thread, but it still isn't clear to me... what did you bed the corecell with? did you use core-bond or did you just glue it and bag it with epoxy, [and the extra glass you used to thicken the hull]?

It is bed in thickened (by wood flour) epoxy, Silver Tip System Three.
Hard to get pics as the clock is ticking as soon as you start working.
1 Pre-wet outer skin, let it set up for a few minutes
2 Pre-soak the back-side of the 1708 on the bench
3 Lay in the 1708 and wet it out
4 Pre-wet the backside of the core-cell
5 Mix up thickened epoxy and spread with notched trowel over the 1708
6 Set core in place
7 Cover with peel ply, breather, bag, and pull vacuum. The bag needs to be taped beforehand, and I've had trouble with getting the bag sealed quickly around all the corners.
This project has been sitting again, got busy with triathlon, then another knee surgery, and other jobs around the house and on the other boats (rebuilt a pontoon, new floors & casting deck in the skiff). Not sure when I'll get back to it.78 Hydrostream Vandal - under restoration here: VANDAL RESTORATION THREAD
