Another newbie
Im 18 years old and really want to get into boating. I dont have a lot of money to play with but I've seen a couple jet boats on craigslist for under 4 grand. I dont really know if i want a jet or an outboard. What are the pros and cons of each. We really dont have shallow rivers or lakes around here so thats not a problem.

Welcome aboard!
You will need money!

welcome to S&F bob! If you are only 18, definitely go with the outboard... They are faster and since the motor is on the outside, there is more room in the boat for chicks and coolers. Wait till you become a senior citizen for the jet; that way being slow will be more appealing and your hearing will already be gone so you won't have to worry about all that noise. haha

At 18, you have no idea, yet. Welcome aboard and I agree with fish. You look around and you will find a good buy on a nice outboard.

my vote is for outboards for little moneys, and performance for the dollars. A jet boat will take more money to maintain and operate. Not to mention you can't hardly insure them.

here ya go. check hulls up to 20' and over 20' depending on what you like.

Best advice is to spend some time poking around the forums, looking at the pics, videos, reading some of the threads..etc Find something you like, ask questions. One thing this forum is not in short supply of is people who know outboards, boats, performance... and they call them like they see them.

Another Newbie
Welcome Bob Way back in the good old days when I was your age My first boat was a 1973 Hydrostream
Ventura with a 150 Merc. Since $$$$ will be the biggest problem. Buy an Outboard. Like FISH said with you get to be my age you will be driving jets.
Let us know what you buy.
