I met Les down in Lake Hamilton. Wasn't he the guy behind the Mach prop side of the business? They had a nice set-up.
He was while they were in business. I think he did a lot more while they were in business than most people give him credit for. His son Mel worked there as well. Both of them are really brillant engineers.

I had heard that those names did as much there (if not more) than the rest.

Someone on the board has a bunch of Second Effort dyno sheets. I can't remember who told me they had them but maybe they are reading this and would share with us. I think it may have been Riverratt. Not sure though.

the 2nd Effort story continued when OMC passed the torch to Velden, then he doubled the prices again
The rights to lots of that stuff is now with Greg Jacobsen who has invested in tooling to reproduce stuff and stock to keep us OMC racers on the water.

Not that it matters, but thats a generic rendering that Second Effort had, showing their very small production "Offshore" V-8 engines. Rigged on a typical large conventional deep-vee offshore boat of the day, like a 38 Scarab. Since they actually put one of these combinations together, and rigged it at the Evinrude Test Facility in Stuart, Fl., and which Dave Albert, who owned MyCo Trailers, died in, after barrel-rolling it in the ocean there. These engines were completely different than the Second Effort "Limited Edition" louvered cowl, production "consumer" motors. You might not want to hear this, but the "L.E." motors were pretty much stock engines, with a fancier lift-off cowl & an exhaust snout, nothing like the 400+ h.p. offshore engines in the above drawings.

yep thats why it was a second effort / they had fuel injection low water pick up etc
thats the base line engine that made over 600 hp and ran 175 mph and still holds the speed record today
