so anyone have an idea the RPM at the 134.7 Mph top speed... I am guessing 6600 ish based on sound... which would be around a 22-23P figuring about 5% slip....??

4-16-2014. 25 years old today... the fishin boat doesnt look to bad for a classic does she

things that were are no longer as they are today...

No, the motor rpm was a little less ... I think I have it in a quote somewhere that it was 5,200 (or maybe 5,500 at most), but the prop rpm was a lot higher. They used a special overdrive gear ratio to step up the prop speed to get the prop blade tip velocity optimum without increasing the motor rpm.

They bragged that their records were set without going above the normal motor rpm and without using alcohol and nitromethane as Merc had used for the 107 and 115 mph records.

It might take me a while to dig up the gear ratio used in those special lower units; they made 2 of them that were off from Hubbell's regular overdrive style unit.

I'd also guess that the slip is a lot higher, because the prop fully lifts the back of the boat, the prop shaft was pointed down about 6 degrees in the back like a three point inboard hydro
