I can't drink beer anymore and I don't think I'm delusional. The Viper engine is a pushrod valve in line engine. The layout is pretty obsolete. My old 1.6L is a narrow included angle cross flow twin cam.

Execution of course matters more than layout. Porsche's 911 is a triumph of execution over layout, which is why no one else makes rear engine cars anymore. The Viper V10 engine and the Vette engine also show good execution, and the merits of size. 1.6L just isn't enough for real speed.

I've driven a few Vipers, and they are a blast. I'd lose my license in a week if I owned one.

newsflash, OHC is older technology than OHV pushrod engines. (ohc-fiat, 1912, pushrod OHV-1949 oldsmobile) ohc is alot heavier per CID, way more bulky, the hp/tq curve is more peaky (good for mag racers and ricers, bad for consumers) and the timing belts/chains are a pain in the ass and huge. the only advantage is at 10,000rpm and in moron countries that tax engines per CID.

I wonder if this new version of the Viper motor is even 10-1 yet? Those V10's are so mild it's not even funny. The 8.0 Magnum Truck motors were the worst, but still had 300 hp and 460 lb/tq.All that with 8.5-8.7-1 compression and cam specs around 385 lift LOL You can easily get 550+ hp out of the 8.0 truck motors,so i'm sure the 600 hp with the new version is way short of it's full potential.

    Talking Can I play?

Its a shame that the rear is all most of you guys will ever see because the front end is so beautifull yet very mean looking.I say go with the Viper.I love mine and its even detuned from the factory for the tow package.Yes I know its not realy a Viper but its as close as I need to be with the Viper power.
It looks cool pulling the boat too.

the viper trucks only get 450hp. hotshot routinely complains he gets 10mpg or worse.

so ok, id rather have something that gets twice the mileage and 50hp less.
