"Behind the Cameras" LIVE Broadcasting of OFFSHORE RACING
Here is a little something I thought people should see.
I got up early Sunday morning and found my way to the TV Production Camp.
This will give some insight to just how big of a deal it was to make LIVE Broadcasting happen.
I wanted nothing more than to recognize these people behind the scenes that were making Offshore History.
Every one of them was very helpful with allowing me access to their playground...
Enjoy the Slideshow:
Live Broadcasting "Behind the Cameras"
I put the photos in a sequence that shows how the footage is captured then brought through each piece of equipment.
Such as from the cameras via the antennas to the to the receiving trailer which then processes the signals and sort of multiplexes all of the devices and sends it over to the second trailer through the sound room, editing and recording then finally pushes the signal out via satellite.
Really amazing stuff. I only wish I had the time to be there when everything was in motion LIVE.

But I was able to take photos from a balcony of a condo and when the boats went to the other side of the course, all I had to do was look left at the TV.
This was covered Worldwide via the Internet as well as regionally on Cox Cable in Florida.

Well Rich,
I am sure you didn't go world wide with the TV Broadcast back in the 80's via the Internet...
I had people telling me they had it on screens in the bars back in Jersey this weekend.
Seeing the camera coverage they had at this event, I certainly don't remember having 3 or more cams in the air, but more likely all land base cameras back in your day. If they did, the transitions didn't seem to be as smooth.
For being LIVE I felt they did a damn good job. But hey, they should have right? Most of these guys do the NFL games.
Just a huge difference from covering a stadium to a 6.8 mile course in the Gulf of Mexico...
Sure it was a challenge, but they handled it and plan on doing it for all next year's OSS races.
I can't help myself for being excited about this. For once I saw an entire race from 1 side of the course to the other. 1 off the balcony the other on LIVE TV.
I realize that Nascar and other events do this every weekend, but you say the last time OS was on LIVE TV was in the '80s ? Even more reason to celebrate that they did it again. Maybe this time it will continue...
