That would be his Vee Bottom Shooting Star..He ran that one in the 1965 Hudson River Marathon...and not many other races. At that time he was racing with his son....... I don't think he ever raced a twin before or after.

Hi Guys. Are you talking about a Swtzer Shooting Star? If so, there was never a Star in V-Bottom design. But ther was a model called the Playboy(but sometime referred to as a V-Star) that was a hybrid of a Holliday (hull) and a Shooting Star deck. I own one of them. If anyone is interested check out http://www.freewebs.com/switzercraftreunionregattas/ our Switzer Site. Tom Arambasich

I love the Flat bottom Shooting Stars...and the Wings, but that big Vee bottom with the square flat Star deck looked like a barge........

Is that boat a Flat bottom? In which case it is a Shooting Star.

Fred's Vee bottom was called "Hartmann and Son" and the flat was called "Freddie". I don't recall Fred ever running the flat bottom with twins???

To my best recollection that hull is a '64 or '65 model. I know he ran the vee in the '65 Hudson River Marathon with his son, and I first saw the Flat a few weeks later. Fred kept his boats in a dusty sheet metal shop in West New York, NJ so they never looked new...even when they were.

I drove that boat a couple of times and it was a trip ....especially in turns. Fred never seemed to get the speed potential out of it...and I guess that's why he tried twins....but I don't recall that phase.

i found out why the nose of this boat looked so different. it started out life as a 15ft 7in boat & the silly looking nose was added to make it a 16 footer i guess so it would be legal as a dual engine

I think those are 1965/66 engines...Merc changed the face plates and cowl mounts in '65 but the Rayson craft cruising by in the second photo has what looks like a 1966 motor on it...... so the bet here is either of those years.

The twin was either Freddy's or Bob Meyer's from Linden, NJ. You may remember him, he owned the Linden Airport and brought the first Schultz wooden tunnel (twin engine) to our area.

In the second picture, does the wording on the Rayson Craft say K&K Outboard? We sold them in late '65 and 66 so that would make the picture 1966.
