I cannot believe I missed this thread. I remember going to all those old Carribean Club races when I was a little kid. It's funny to see all those old pics and how young my uncle and all those other guys looked. Unfortunately in these days of lawsuits and insurance, there will probably never be any races there ever again. The Club is still open and has not been sold. Marine stadium just hosted a wakeboard competition last weekend. I still have a first place trophy from Memorial day 1985 at the Carribean Club from the ABBA(American bar brawler's association) in my shop. Instigator, I have the old race hood fom my uncle's old Super B race car here too. The collection of old pics and videos that Bobby has are incredible. It would be awesome if he could post some of the old footage on screamandfly.

Hi Charlie - I used to tow down to the C.C. race with Kenny Olsen and Jack Withrow. These are the only pictures I could find. This had to be in "76 or "77. You probably knew my old Zonkercraft. I bought it from Kenny, who somehow got it from Jan Whitton. I ran it with a T1 but the boat had too much rocker in it and loved to go for the moon. Probably would have been an OK SJ boat, but not a UJ. I stood it up twice and both times it came down right side up and that is when I decided to sell it and get into the inboards.

Zonker craft by Al Martin, basically a copy of a miles master or a Kitson and as you say with a Lotta rocker. Screaming yellow Zonker‘s Chick Gagen ran the hell out of one in local races all over the southeast. Jan‘s boat I believe was derived from that family, and for the time was a very fast boat, although unforgiving once you’ve stood it up to high as with any tunnel boat but to get the speed you had to ride at high, I blew over in a fiberglass Kitson in Key West early in my tunnel, boat career and that all is very similar, but not as light as the Zonker craft boats. Best always Amberjack. Sure miss the old Caribbean Club days.

Bobby Pesos Sr has either stills and or movies of the CC races.
I visited him 25 yrs ago w/Bobby Jr and sat it in awe as he told stories of those races.
I raced keel down w/the APBA for 9 yrs and couldn’t quite wrap my head around that free for all!
I remember the pits looked like Woodstock!
We always stopped at the CC on our Keys trips when we lived in Fla.
Love that place and that history.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.
