Before sending the impeller out for any additional work, assuming it's already in decent to excellent condition, I'd suggest waiting untill you've had it all together in the water and know what rpm range the engine is turning it at and how fast the boat goes. That will go a long way towards tweaking it in the right direction and only having to work on the impeller once.
You always have to establish a baseline before you go and tweak on anything, otherwise, you'll just end up chasing your tail. There will be plenty of times some tweak didn't have the desired result, sometimes they have a decidedly negative result, but without the baseline, you'll never know.

You thinking is correct about establishing a base line before you "cut" your impeller. What I am talk, about has nothing what so ever do with cutting your impeller to a different size. Blue printing the impeller is cleaning up the vanes, sharping, shaping them to reduce slippage or cavation. I have not seen a cast impeller out of the box that is blue printed. Aggressor does the nicest job I have seem but they still need some work. Once Jack gets done with sharping and shaping the vanes you may see a 200-300 rpm drop as the impeller is loading harder. You will notice a better hole shot and possible a tad better top end. Like I said its the best bang for the buck for the price. As heavy as the Carlson is, it will need all the efficiency it can get... Just throwing my $.02 worth of experience out there. Have fun with your project....

Ok gang how does this look. I put the air cleaner and carb on the intake today for a test fit. Air cleaner is really close but does clear the top of the carb. Hope this combonation works well in the old jet boat.

Well, seeing that little doo-dad mounted on a carb, and realizing how small it actually is, .........
I would really urge you to dig deep into those po-boy pockets and "Put up the cash for the day on the dyno".
The last thing you need to happen is for the nice new motor to lean out at high rpm and load and self destruct.
In all seriousness, the money spent to get a new motor dialed in decently on a dyno is always well spent. Knowing your hp and torque curves lets your pump guy dial in your impeller for the best performance without all the trial and (sometimes expensive) error that comes with seat of the pants testing.

I'm all ears Darlene, I have never done any of this before and have never worked with engines so I really am listening.
Hell, I have only had one car in my life that was a V8 and it was a 305 small block in the 80's, LOL LOL

Ok I've lost my mind because I really don't need the stuff now but I got a good deal. Just picked some marine audio for the project. I got two 10" subwoofers a pair of 6' mid drivers and a pair of 25mm tweets. Went with Kicker Marine on the speakers and went with a Rockford Fosgate 4 chanel amp. All I need now is a nice head unit Boom Boom Boom!

Lol, my friend had an offshore vee and we used to go to his place in the winter and crank up the heat in his garage. We would take off our shoes and get in the boat and crank it up. The good old days!

Ha, you need some extra time to actually get out to the back garage to do anything out there. Only time I do lately is to get in the truck and go plow snow. This is house project time of year, have a few pocket money things to finish then going to tear out one of my baths and rebuild it. Just can't even start on a boat right now, but the bayliner is sleeping inside this winter and that is good.

An insde boat is a happy boat! my junk is on hold for now, can't get back out to the old outdoor work shop quite yet. I do clean the snow off the cover from time to time! My buddy Eliminator has a garage I could work in but he just got a COOL ASS Hondo V-drive hydro with no motor. We need to get it back together and all cleaned up so we can take it to some of the Southern Hotboat events this summer

Ha, my list? Nobody wants to read a post that long! And I have not started on the bathroom yet, a few money making things I have to finish yet. Those cool things like families and houses sure take up all my time.
