    I have ridden in a Hondo Hydro. Fast, but they are so low to the water that it feels like you are riding on a piece of plywood. Rides like it too.

    Where are you at on this?!?! This has been an awesome read so far. We have a 76' CVX20 460. Currently it needs the jetdrive rebuilt and not sure if we should pay to have it done or dive into it like you did. The local jet tech here said that we either needed to pull the motor and bring it in or to bring the whole boat in and have them do it (pull the motor).. Hmm...

    Regardless of my issues. You need to get back to your boat asap.

    I'm new to all of this but I do know that the E and F sytle Berk pumps are hull molded pumps. I was told by two top of the line pump shops the they should not really be removed from the hull. They have an epoxy based sealer that can be a big time problem to free up with out doing damage to the hull. I think the stuff is called (sea goin poxy putty). I got my pump out after 8 hours of work with the heat gun running inside the intake housing nearly the entire time. I think it is best to take the boat to the shop. Does your pump have a Jet-o-vator or place diverter now and does it have a ride plate and a good loader?

    My plan is to go with a Place diverter rather than use the jet-o-vator. I also plan on running a ride plate for sure. Wish I had the funds to change the bowl to a split bowl and try a straight or droop snoot. I think the straight snoot along with a ride plate could really help this big old hull perform well. The CVX20 is a good lake boat and will clearly never be a racer but I do want it to be a sleeper. Check out the custom made packing gland

    wasnt the motor in the hondo the motor that was suposed to go in your boat if so what are you going to use now. cool boat by the way

    It looks like you are starting the right way by striping everything out and giving it a good cleen up. I went through just what you are doing and it took a while but well worth it when you are finished. Good luck and keep us posted.

    I started a 78' CVX 20 project this week.
    150/Nick has my new motor at his shop and parts are on the way.
    Hope to be ready by Labor Day.

    Hi, just now read your thread on the project (11/2008) but in case you are still workin stringers, I took all my structural wood out and went all synthetic for structural. I used surfboard foamboard, glass and resin to makeup my own stringers. But no matter what you use, if you haven't put them in yet let me know. I think I found a neat trick for bonding them to the hull floor and KNOWING FOR SURE you got the max adhesion you can get.

    Like you I too did alot of 1st time glass work. I moved my engine forward about 20" and designed and built a new engine cover. What really changed things was when I figured out I hated smoothing stuff out so I went to using a top layer of PETG (same chemistry as gel coat). I mix up silica filler with the west system and use it like thinset mortar and then lay the precut PETG on it. The edge of the PETG serves as my guide for corner radius and it ends up lookin pretty darn smooth.

    now wait a minute here.... I never touched the bottom end.... i installed an oil pump, timing set, cam, lifters and redid your CJ heads... and installed the tin wear.... the motor was tight and happy and had 80 lbs of oil pressure when it left the shop... and you ran more than 30 min.... i know how far it is from the ramp to jeff's house...
