trim? how high is too high?
i was out in my 91 hydrostream vasserette today and i was trimming it up pretty high hitting 73, when the boat really picked up and was riding insanely high out of the water. i had to let off because of the upcoming chop and i have NO FEEDBACK steering which sucks but, it seemed it would pick up more speed if i was able to hold it there. i am just wondering if it is likely to flip these boats from trimming them too high. i read on the hydrostream website that the vikings have been known to do that and i know this is a very similar boat. my friend was videotaping and i grabbed this picture off the video. not the best shot but this is how high the boat was riding when i hit 73. id rather not learn this one the hard way...haha....thanks for any input..............................dave

When RPMs continue to increase but the mph stops increasing or decreases. From the pic, you are too high.

That is definitelty too high, and try to keep that at a minimum..! At that speed maybe 1/2 that much bow lift, less as the speed increases... Can they blow over, yes they can especially if you get the mph up some more... High and flat is what you want in a oerfect world were there isn't but a afew inches of air under the driver area roughly speaking, but yet having the rear of the pad drafting as little depth as possible... You want the hull to "skim" the surface of the water, as your boat is running, the rear of the pad is traveling through the water like a wedge and displacing too much water and therefore adding drag... I think that your boat will be faster with a flatter angle of attack, what is your engine, prop, setback etc....

man you guys are quick
i really appreciate the input guys. i am running a 1991 hydrostream vasserette with a 175 mariner, land and sea jackplate with no setback, and a 26p mercury chopper prop. i am embarassed to say my tach is not working. i replaced my regulator before going out hoping that was the problem but it is just giving me crazy rpm readings still. i no i shouldnt of run it like that but i did it today anyway. i do plan on getting it straightened out a.s.a.p. thanks again..............dave

Bow lift feels cool, but it only makes the boat harder to handle at speed.
Regarding your tach...
The Kysor-Medallion tachs seem to have a design flaw. (assuming that's what you have, OEM, and all other connections are good)
The magnetic coil and needle assembly is both mechanically, and electrically connected to the internal circuit board with threaded studs and hex nuts. The circuit board has lead-tinned traces exposed at this fastening point. The solder gets mashed from vibration and the nuts work their way loose inside. The result is a glitchy or freezing tach needle. If you want to be brave, you can attempt to fix it like I did with mine. Remove all rear hardware. Uncrimp the bezel with a screwdriver one little twist at a time till it can come apart. Look for the three studs and nuts, and crank 'em back tight again before re-assembling.
Calculator shows you're likely in the 6200-6500 range.

Also remeber that your wasting your ponies to carry the bow when if the hull is flat ( Skimming the water to stay afloat) you can use them to T push you forward (thrust) maybe looking for a new prop to give ya some more stern lift and BIGGER MPH

here is the guide lines I use, when you get up to speed start trimming up, keep going faster and trimming highter, when you see God then trim in 1 click.. hope this helps

You chop that throttle with boat at that attitude your ass is HURT!
Trim down to slow first, the only thing holding the boat down is the prop. Also over trimming makes the boat slower. Not faster!
