    left hand rotation berkly????

i just picked up a 72 glastron jet drive. the motor supposedly is a worn out 350. and stickered on the valve covers it says left hand rotation. did i miss a memo somewhere? or did berkley run a reverse pump?
i bought it for parts for a 71 sidewinder i'm restoring,,but is it true?this thing is run backwards?

Yes, I don't know if all are. But I had one that was.

The only "left hand rotation" I have heard of on a jet boat was the starter. Some have starters that mount from the rear and much higher than conventional location. Those starters must rotate reverse from a "normal" starter.

Does the "worn out 350" run? Does it run backwards?

I can't imagine any reason to run a jet pump "reversed". I guess if you wanted the engine installed with the flywheel towards the front of the boat, you might want to run the engine "backwards" so that a stock jet pump would work driving it off the front end of the engine.

Engines that run "backwards" are not uncommon in twin engine prop boats.

This deal sounds more than a little "off the wall" to me.

I have a problem believing this myself. Why would anyone want to go to the trouble to do this? Lets think you'd need a lefty bowl and impeller and the motor would either need to be driven from the opposite end as mentioned or have a custom cam and the thrust side of the pistons reversed. All for what reason?

I know Mark Nye made his pump reverse rotation but that was to overcome the wrong output rotation of his turbine which is obviously a little harder to "fix" I don't think he wanted to mess with the gearbox on something spinning 30 000+ rpm :O
He had a bowl and impeller made for him and I assume it wasn't "too" much trouble to reverse the CNC/CAD. I believe Eagle/AT took care of that stuff for him

    I wanna see pics!

    Cheers

You know that is what mine was, so I just assumed it was left hand.

It was a Inmar Big Block production engine.

Now when I got my BB Ford Boat, I know it was not left hand.

So my previous post of yes, is wrong. Both of mine were right hand!
Go figure, learn something 26 years later!

    lefty

on most opposite rotation engines the cam gears and the dist gear is what is backward ,as usual motor still turns the same
