    lower unit / gear ratio ?

    i have a 91 mariner 175. with my lower unit off, what is the best way to determine the gear ratio of my lower unit?.....................dave

    ratio

    mark both shafts and turn the drive shaft (in forward) clockwise if it takes just under two complete rotations to make one full turn of the prop shaft, it is 1.87:1 ..... if it takes two complete turns it is 2:1
