hull speed on hydrostream vector?

what the hull speed on a vector? ive been told that they will not go over 100 because of a hook in the bottom? is this true.

You can get a Vector over 100 (but you better have you balls strapped up tight ) Vectors are a handful to drive at any speed over 75. With enough power and the right set up 100 is no problem in a Vector. Yes alot of Vectors had hooks in the pad . Most people that have the hook fill them in it helps eliminate (or at least make better) the notorious porposing the Vectors are famous for. If you want to see a Vector running over 100 go to www.hydrostream.org and go into the video section and there is a short clip of one running 100.

Not true at all! I have been over 103 in my Vector and it has a hook in the bottom.There are a lot of people who have driven them over 100,it's just not easy getting there. Takes a lot of practice. I guy I know from Jay,Fl. Wayne Weeks has what I think is still the record in a Vector.The boat was called Southern Comfort and I think his fastest speed was 114mph.It's not a safe ride in a Vector at those kind of speeds and it is not a very forgiving hull going that fast neither,but you can go over 100 if your setup is right and you know how to drive it through the rough spots.Hope this answers your question.Hydro

Well first of all they do porpose a lot around cruising speed,and when you get it on up and riding on the pad they do seem to chine walk quite a bit.Thats just something you have to learn to drive through and learn to keep it balanced on the pad.The porpose will go away at the higher speeds but the chine walk comes into play and must be dealt with.As stated above, most of this chine walking comes in around 70 to 75mph and above.From there on up it is a handfull to drive and you have to stay on your toes and work the wheel and the trim to get it balanced and keep it there. When you add more throttle you have to work to keep it balanced.And a word of advise,never let totally out of the throttle running at high trim angles,It could get real ugly.When you want to run a Vector that fast,find a place with little or no boating traffic and make sure the water is fairly calm.One little wake at those speeds and it could be disasterous.Hydro

It just takes the right setup and alot of seat time to get used to it, I had one with a 2.5 200 on it and it scared the hell out of me until I learned how to drive it. Now I have a Vking yt with a 2.5 280 drag on it and at over 100 it feels like its on rails . The Vector is a driving mans boat!

The term "hull speed" actually only applies to displacement hulls, not planing. Examples of displacement hulls are sailbotes, trawlers and cargo ships.

The hull speed is determined by a simple mathematical formula and is the maximum speed a displacement hull will theoretically go throuth the water. The formula is:

Speed in knots = 1.37 X sq. root of waterline length (in feet).

Wayne Weeks held the NOA Unlimited V Bottom Kilo record for 5 years or more in the late 70's/early 80's. When he first set it, it was slightly over 100 and he gradually upped it to the upper one teens. It was not unusual for people to run 90's in a Vector with a V6 from the time the V6's were introduced in the 70's with proper setup and seat time (driver skill)

The hook in the Vector has gotten a bad rap from a lot of people over the years. The fastest Vectors that I'm aware of, including Wayne's ran with the hook. I'm not sure I've got another hook vs no hook debate left in me at this point, (I believe it's almost blasphemous to take the hook off) but I'll just leave it at Howard Pipkorn was a man ahead of his time with both engineering and styling, and created a truly legendary boat with the Viper/Vector/Ventura/Viking boats in my opinion.
