gelcoat overspray removal
Had some gelcoat work done and now my merc alien engine covers are covered in white gelcoat overspray. How do I remove it from plastic?

Sorry to hear that!!! I know how unpleasant that can be, the particles are usally thicker than if they were paint. The good news is, usually you can overcome the problem by buffing it out. I recommend you mask off your decals as if you were going to paint so you won't eat up the color, use a fine grade compound with a wool pad & DO NOT press down very hard or keep the buffer over the same area for long periods of time cause you could burn the plastic, so buff lightly till overspray is gone then switch over to foam pad & use finnessit by 3M to glaze & remove swirl marks. Good luck you should have no problems ( DO NOT USE ANY TYPE SOLVENTS ) Peace! FIG

Thanks guys. I ended up buying a clay bar a couple of weeks ago. Worked great. I was impressed how well it worked. I will have to find some other uses now.

Most of the time I would have to. To the shops defense, Work was great, 2/3s less money than all other quotes, and I had to have it by the weekend so I said I would finish it.

Not sure where exactly or how bad the overspray is but if the cover is in good shape (glossy) then a clay bar should take it off pretty easy. Less effort than cutting down with a buffer and no risk of burning the cowl.
