They had one in hotboat 8 years ago. It was more like a gearbox.I think it had one input and two output, almost like v-drives.

I heard somewhere they were developing one somewhere for OSS racing using a big HP single to turn 2 props but dont remember if that was a rumor or actually something happening.. all it would take is a trasnfer case and counter rotating props to work.. but would need one heck of a motor to make it perform..

not sure is this is what you were asking about but here is a motor merc developed several years ago. Did not go into production. I heard there were only a bout 4 made. I think one is in a showroom at mercury, and raceman probably has the other 3 LOL It is called Deuces High.

They make a hydraulic drive system, one motor, 2 drives. Mostly for trawlers.

I have seen them on mercury sterndrives. There are ski racers on the west coast running them. saw one in "Hot Boat" or "powerboat" with in the last couple years. Have also seen inboards running single engines with twin counter rotated shafts.

Volvo has had counter rotating Duoprop drives since the 80's. But one engine to two drives, I don't think so?

On a diffence note, I hear that Mercury just bought a two speed outboat motor.I know they have been trying to make one for years. But I guy in San Deigo got it to work.
Back to the stern drive, What I want to do is, run two down the middle of the tunnel. The one a saw was side by side. And don't want to run surface drives. The v-drive boy are run twin screws in the hydro.

Mercury's high performance duo-prop was a Blackhawk. They didn't make them for very long. I think they had a bunch of issues with them.

Some of the drag boats were using a system of single engine and two shafts props. I would think that could be adapted to a single engine 2 outdrives. The tranny set-up even made them counter-rotating.
