Turbine repair
we also repair turbine buckets and segments, gas and steam power as well as props, and yes this is very expensive,as well there are so many more safety factors to be considered.

Klem,
The turbine engine they are probably speaking of is the Allison 250-C18, available as military surplus under designation T63-A-700. This engine weighs 136 pounds and will produce 317 HP at 6056 RPM output shaft speed. These engines have been sucessfully installed in both jet boats (jet-jet?? and with outdrives.

Hmm, discounts???
Hey, I wonder if I could get any deals on turbines!!?!?! I work for a company, doing Quality Control Inspection, we are, as far as I know, the SOLE manufacturer of the Compressor Cases on General Electric Aircraft, BMW Rolls Royce, Solar, Allied Signal, and several others! Maybe I could get in touch with them, I want one in my truck!!!!!!!!! hehehehehe Hey, who sells Turbine Powered Boats? Smaller, not tthe mega Yachts?? Just want some eye candy!!!!!!! Later all.....

Another great website
For anyone interested in turbine boats, this website is a must see. An old jet boat converted to turbine, and a far more elaborate (and faster) purpose built unit.

gas turbines
i worked on the uss taylor(ffg 50) as a gas turbine technician and am federally certified on mainteneance on them- we had 2 ge lm 2500 engines(dc 10 engines adapted to marine use) they were rated at 21500 hp each, feeding one shaft(20:1 reduction), input rpm was 9600 rpm, output was 180 shaft rpm, speed was 44 mph in a 450 ft ship(3800 tons), the problems w/ turbines are poor fuel efficiency at low speeds and getting rid of the hi volume of the 1400+ degree exhaust temp discharge- the best source for a turbine are surplus helicopter turbines, there is a place in the midwest that sells themm for 5000$ and up- next problem- how are you going to reduce the high rpm to something that is useable- rpm output of these engines is probably over 12000 rpm so some kind of reduction gear will be required and turbines are most efficient at full rpm- it is an intersting proposition and one that i have been thinking about- maybe all of us working together could get this to work... any suggestions????

Bin done...
Have a look at Mark Nye's site in the post above. He has built a couple of turbine lake boats. He also sells adaptor and braking kits to couple the engine to the jet pump.
The output speed on the Allison T63 is 6056 rpm if I remember correctly. This is reduced from an N2 speed of about 30,000 rpm. The N1 speed of the T63 is 50,000 rpm!!
So it is quite doable - for cheap too!

turbine
Several months ago I spoke with Chub of Stroker Boats in Tennessee and he invited me to come see his Bell helicopter engine he was mounting on anoutboard exhaust housing and to my understanding running a stock lower unit. If anyone knows if that ever happened, it would be cool to know results. If I get a chance next week I will call and find out.

outboard jet?
From what you all have sayed these sound pretty amazing, they have power in both rpms and torque, how small do they come, could one be put under the cowling of a 40 hp outboard with a jet? lol

No chance....
No way you can put a cowling over a turbine - they need too much air and run way too hot. Don't forget that a turbine has no cooling system, if the turbine outlet temp (TOT) is 600 C, that could be the outside temp of the engine casings.
