Mirage, Jaguar jet
I am thinking about taking this boat on trade. The guy said it handles good and goes 100mph. I find this hard to believe, but maybe. It has a 454, 420hp crate motor in it and a jet drive. It is a 1996. I am going to take it for a ride sometime next week with my GS in hand.
Can anyone give me factual informantion on
1- how fast are these boats with 420hp
2- will they really handle take a 2' chop?
3- What are they worth?
4- Are they safe at speed or do you need lots of time in the seat to safely go 100mph if it will really do that?

NO WAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 750 hp might get you there ,takes a lot of HP with a jet to go triple digits!!!!!!!!!!!the hole shot is a different story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Mirage is designed to aerodynamically lift for less drag and more speed.
A jet pump is a 420 HP hydraulic vaccuum cleaner. Once the exciting holshot is over, the boat is "glued" to the water. Lots of HP, and lots of drag.
Kind of like a hot air balloon with a 5,000,000,000 BTU burner and a battle tank in the basket.'89 Hydrostream Vegas XT, '90 Merc 2.4 Bridgeport PCU EFI

I have the Hot Boat magazine where they compared the outboard Mirage and the jet Mirage. I'll find it, read it, and will let you know what they said.
It doesn't get much cooler than a jet Mirage.

Cool photos of this thing in Hot Boat. It's the May/96' edition. The thing is NASTY looking!!!! I say buy it for shock value alone.

Boz,
Thanks for looking up that article. So I can guess hi 70's with the 420hp crate motor. 100mph and the looks had sparked my interest. But I am really looking for something bigger, and a little faster.
Thanks everyone for your help. I might broker the boat for the guy, and still get some GPS #'s, I will post if I do. He wants 12,500 for it.
Thanks,
Don

Very cool boat
I owned a 1996 model. Had a blown 468 Chev. Am turbine pump. would barely run 80
Sold it 7 years ago for 15,000. and it was mint.

Mirage
There was one here locally FS as well, it was in Bellevue, IA. Was listed in Traderonline, but has since disappeared. This boat was baby blue, white, and pink. It looked like a nice boat. Post it FS here on the board, and post some pics. I am curious!

Does anyone have that copy of the 96 Hot Boat Magazine featuring that Jaguar Jet. I actually just bought that boat a few weeks back and would love to have the magazine. Please contact me at kcoleman10@hotmail.com or let a message on here. Appreciate it. Thanks!
By the way...The 454 was removed from the hull and the patchwork is about to begin. An outboard is getting hung on it. Not real crazy about that set up. That boat was meant to go fast and 75 isn't cutting it for me.
