set up for hydrostream v-king
What would be the best prop for my set up, I have a 1984 v-king with a 84 150 black max, right now I am running a 23 pitch merc stainless prop, it is pulling a little over 6,000 RPM, I am not sure the speed, I think its in the 70's. I was looking at some 26 pitch big ear choppers, and a 24 pitch small ear chopper, what would be the best prop for this set up? Any help would be great.

Cleavers are my choice on the V-King, Vector and Viper.

cleavers and round-ears
On a Viking with a 150, a cleaver is not the best choice, especially if (a) it's a pleasure/recreational version, and (b) you are carrying a driver plus weight (passengers, gear, etc.). A cleaver would work reasonably well on a Viking with big power (225+ horsepower) and light weight (light driver, light passengers, etc.). But for all-round performance with a 150, a medium rake to high positive rake (15 degrees to 30 degrees) round-ear will accelerate more quickly, carry a load better, and have as much if not more top end (especially with weight aboard) than a cleaver. Unless your 150 is really a 250 under the hood, go with a round-ear like a Chopper, Mazco RE, BRP SRX, or similar.

Thank You Jwtjr !!!
I Have Been Preaching That Point For Many Years And Only The Truly
Informed Or Persons Having The "seat Time" Experience Can Comprehend This. Not Ttrying To Burst Any Bubbles Or Ruffle Any Feathers So Take It For What Its Worth, Try Before You Buy When It Comes To Props, Try An Srx You Will Love It!!!.

My V-King with a ModVP (so the big power option) ran well with a cleaver, but the fastest prop I ran on it was an RE3, followed closely by a small blade chopper. Round ears forever!

I just bought a small blade chopper, I should have it in tomorrow. How are the bridgeport motors for reliability and just being able to use them as a regular motor?

Had the same set up and ran a 26 big ear chopper. Went to a small ear 28 chopper when I put a 200 on it.

Rummer, no mods. I bought the boat (1985) hardly used in '91. It had been impounded for a few years.
I just sold the boat last Nov. I see the boat every weekend and fixed the steering for the new owner last week. He is here on S&F, PHISH. The boat currently is OMC 235 powered.
Best I got was 96.6 on cop radar at a regatta "radar run" in the early 90's. Saw mid 90's mph on a Nordskog speedo many times.
Here's a picture when it was ModVP powered and still metal flate, and last summer OMC powered and red.Last edited by chris_lacey; 07-13-2006 at 07:25 AM.
