From what i've heard the "OEM" seals are not good and that you should run aftermarkets seals. Who do I use??

depends on what shaft you have

some of those seals are not available aftermarket. Mercury is your only choise unless you can read the numbers on the seals you have and they can be crossed over to something else.

Ive heard others say there are problems with the verticle shaft seals, the leaks that I have found have been in the shift shaft seals. I havent seen any posts about prop shaft seals. Prop shaft seal will usually pull more than just a "few teaspoons", usually if they go they will go fast, "usually".

In my opinion the problem is that the cases are not vented and in certain applications they are biulding too much pressure and blowing out the seals. If I were you I would pressurize the case and identify were the leak is, change the seal and fill (less a 1/2 oz) with merc drive oil. Check often and repeat if necessary.
There are also a few guys making billet purches with an additional seal and vent, that replaces the plastic shift shaft purch. I bought a set but havent installed because I havent blown out the seals again since Ive been going light on the oil.
