    250xs vs 300xs

Just a thought.Ran a 250 on a 21 stroker on the limiter with a 32 pitch prop.I think the limiter on the 300xs is the same.Same gear ratio and limiter, why would the 300 be faster.I know some of you mite say because it's a 300.Same gear ratio, rpm,=same speed

With the same prop at the same RPM it won't be faster, but with a 34P it should be. You just going to run out of options when you start getting into props that big.

you were doing 105-110 in a stroker with a 250XS???

the math says with a 1.62 case and 6300 rpm with a 32 pitch prop and 10% slip, you should be doing 105...

Mercury HP charts have the 250 at 270 propshaft HP, and the 300 at 305 HP. The 300xs is about $2000 more than the 250xs.

    250 vs 300

Jimmyb,it ran 100.5 with a 250,no gear or troller and 105.1 with a 300x loaded to fish.I was hoping the 300xs would be closer in speed to the 300x.I think the rev limiter will kill it.I see mercury doing like they did with the 250xs and raising the limiter in a year or two.

Greg's best speed was 105.1 I believe with the 300X. The 250XS probably wasn't turning to 6300 RPM. The problem with both of those motors is that they peak too early. They only make about 75% power at 6300 RPM, they peak down at about 5900.

Very interesting!!! Same pitch prop to the same rpms should give the same speed, with both motors 300 should get there quicker.. Still have to think the 300 would turn a little bigger prop then the 250, hence more speed... Louis

A 300XS will be able to turn a prop. with 2"-4" more of pitch, depending on hull type and weight, than a 250XS.

How much heavier is the 300?? Would the extra weight net the same speed as the 250?
