    Question Whaler "Green Line" seperating

I have been looking for a "father and son" whaler project for a while and noticed a candidate a few months ago in the back of a boat yard. Asked about it a few times without being pushy (I want it cheap ) and finally got invited to check it out yesterday. It is a 91 15' GLS with a "blown up" 50 hp Johnson (check out my other thread in tech).

For the most part it seems to be a pretty solid hull (that hasn't been waxed since it was new ) other than the typical whaler "green line seperation".

I have no idea how long it has been sitting outside with the transom exposed like this (I live north of Seattle so it has been rained on a few times ).

I banged on the transom and it felt solid. I stood on the motor anti cav plate and didn't seen any movment.

Do any of you experts think I will have to do anything more than just clean it up and epoxy it back together?

I haven't bought the boat yet, but I did make an offer, but I really don't want it if It needs a complete transom replacement ...

Thanks for any replys and opinions, Scott

In all my years of Whaler repairs, I've never seen a rotted transom. That split isn't very common up here. I work on several whalers a year and only seen a couple with split seams. That would be a good dickering item though.
I would put heat lamps on it for several days then pour in epoxy.
15' Whalers are very popular up here. So are the 17'. If you find any cheap ones even in need of repair, let me know.

I'd play it off like it needs a new transom and use that as a dickering tool as suggested. If you can get it cheap enough i'd snatch it and run
    I'm currently boatless

Thanks for the replys Ron and Bob, believe me I am working every angle I can to get it cheap

The transom does seem solid and would probably be fine with the 50HP JonnyRude that is on it after an epoxy repair, but some day may want a 90 or more like NNT

BTW Alaska we don't see 15's and 17's cheap down here very often. I have been looking for a year or two now and this is the first one that may be reasonable and not totally trashed...

Heck even 13's with old power don't go for much less than 4k anymore

    Red face Plexus

Being in Seattle you can go to a frp supplier and get some Plexus. It can be bought it little sample's or you can buy the gun and the bigger double barrels style tubes. Make sure they know what you are applyin it to. Grind out the green as best you can and tape off and crunch this in there. Some of the bigger tubes have application tips to get in hard places.

    Hope this helps.
