Twin Merc 3.0L carbed . new guy , need help !

I am new to this forum and very pleased with the tons of info you can find here just by doing a small search.

Well, I got a project going on right now. Its a 24' Performer center console and i recently bought TWIN 1995 Mercury 3.0L 225HP Carbed engines. I know its not a flying hull like most boats seen here, but i would like to make it faster than most center consoles out there. It seems that most aftermarcket or racing parts are made just for the EFI's.

My engines BOTH have exactly 100# of Compression all around.

    Here are my questions:

Are those numbers good or not so good? What do you guys think about these engines?

Whats the highest compression i can reach safely by cutting the heads without blowing up my stock engines?

What kind of HP will i be looking at after this mod?

How can i make my carbed engines faster?

Sorry for so many questions. Just trying to learn as much as i can.

Any info will be greatly appreciated

    Hi,

MAD Efi, can cut your factory heads, Im pretty sure he takes them up around the 130-140 mark, you would have to check with him, his website is www.madefi.com the other 3.0l guru is Simon motorsports at www.simonmotorsports.com either of these guys will be able to point you in the right direction.

    Cheers

    James
