    One Lap of America!!

My brother and a friend of his are racing a custom built Subaru STI in this year's One Lap of America race. They will be racing at No Problem Raceway on Monday!! If anyone from Houston would like to go with me to see all the cars... I would love to have someone go and share the fuel expenses with me.

They will be tired racers with days and many miles to go!!

Here are some pics of the car and a laugh at my brother's sense of humor... lets see how many get it!

Waiting patiently for a chance to play...

Here is the schedule of events!!

Going into Sunday's roadcourse events and after one yesterday Doug is in 6th overall out of 88 competitors!!! :- :- :-

The only cars beating him at this time are a friend of mine, Ron Adee's GTSR Viper... one of the very same cars that won LeMans in 1997. This is not a street car Viper, but one of the true factory race cars!! All carbon with tube chassis car! Danny Popp's SSGT 427R powered Z06 that is an amazing car in 2nd place. Two of the Noble M400s from Europe... I put a picture below. These are full carbon monocoque chassis race cars with tons of power and no weight! A Cup Car built 996 Twin Turbo Porsche is in 5th. Then you have Doug in his four-door grocery getter Subaru getting 41 mpg on the highway as they go between track events and turning the wick up to make over 600 AWHP for the events!!

Here is a pic of Ron's "Street Legal" Viper!

    Note the intercooler!!

Oh yeah... this looks really STREET LEGAL!!! But not beating the Subie!!

This is the Porsche that is going to get a ripping today!!

I was informed that he beat Hennessey's twin turbo Viper yesterday by close to 3 seconds a lap!! Hennessey then had some motor trouble and had to be pushed off the track.

The 2007 Shelby GT500 is in 26th place! Hope that is not an indication of its 500 horsepower or its performance! They came factory backed with an 18-wheeler! It did manage to beat the Dodge Neon and the Beetle TDI... but not by much. It will be at No Problem raceway if you want to see it up close Wayne!

I cannot wait to see today's results!!

I made the drive to No Problem raceway yesterday... got a few pics, saw a bunch of old friends and had more fun than my brother did. Turns out the bypass valve on the boost pipe was failing and causing a boost leak, making the air signal from the MAF all wrong.
Well... we fell a few spots and hope to pick them back up on Roebling Road in Savannah today. Seeing as this is our "home" track... it should not be too difficult.

After a full day at No Problem raceway and after driving 1000+ miles to get there... the day was a let down to say the least. Then driving 2 hours to Mobile to change the clutch, brake rotors and fluids... add another 8 hours to make it to Savannah for today's race. I think they are crazy for sure!

I met an old Viper friend who now works in the R&D division for Chrysler's Jeep skunk works. T-Rex... You'd love these guys. The Jeep they brought went on a weight reduction plan... Carbon fiber doors, lexan windows and got a healthy injection of steroids for a 500+hp HEMI! If you know your Jeeps... most are "Trail Rated" these days. This one has a twist.

I also got some time in the Shelby GT500 and can say I'm not impressed at all. On the track the car just drudged along as it has been certainly outfitted with every known sound-deadening material known to man. It was overweight and just plowed its way around the track. If you stood on the throttle it would pull hard but the balance of the car was just off.

The link to all the pics I took can be found here: http://www.davidawilks.com/auto/OneLap/

Here are some of the highlights... including the Honda Minivan that was AWESOME!!

    See the camlock?

    This is why... LOL!!!

The doors were honeycomb composite and weighed less than 10 pounds!

    Oh yeah... TRACK Rated!!

    Looks stock from the outside!!

    Honda minivan, right...?

    Honda minivan with BREMBOS!!!

Don't miss the carbon fiber hood!

GT500 before getting on the track.

GT500 sitting still earlier... wait till you see what that Porsche beside it has for power!

    GT500 entering the turn.

    Another...

    This is cool!

And that Porsche I told you about...

This Hot Car had a HOTTER driver!

Discovery Channel was giving her an interview about her rubbing with the Police on the way!

This is the twin turbocharged FORD Zetec engine that resides in the Noble 400. Not a bad use for a Minivan motor...

Another sweet driver... I mean car.

I took this with the guy standing there so you can get an idea of how small it is. It has an LS6 Chevy engine making 500 hp and weighs 2200 pounds!!

Rear shot of the Ultima GTR!

Could you drive 4000 miles on the road in this?

    Here is the blue one...

These guys were hysterical!! He drove the car on the track wearing a custom fireproof 3-piece suit!

    Hey Rex....

Yep... that thing's got a HEMI!

    Just winging it!!

My friend has one of those Ultima gtr cars that you show in the 3rd picture of the third post. He's in the process of putting a twin turbo kit on it right now. He has also won the Car Craft Real Street Eliminator races in his Cadilac. Check out his web-site. www.schwartzperformance.com He's doing some pretty cool Sh@@. His car is the yellow Ultima. By the way, killer pictures! Later, Dave
