    Bridgeport combustion chamber size

Which motor(EFI or carb)or year did the 26cc chamber head come on on the Bridgeports? Did all the BP's come with 26cc heads? I know their port height is higher so did they put the small chambers on all of the BP's to keep the compression up?

    Cool 26's???

Sounds very tight for a stocker. Never heard of one that small stock. Maybe 36cc's. I know they are slightly smaller than the 260's and those were generally 42 or 37cc.
26cc would be stock on a 300 drag. It would require substantial octane on a BP or a 2.5 . Most people run 100 octane with 26's but you could probably run 97-98 or so comfortably on a 2.4.

I bought a new MOD-VP carb BP in 1986 and it had 2-piece heads that had .80 stamped on the top of each head. I'm not sure what that would mean as far as CC's, but I know Mercury said to run 100LL Avgas. That motor had great midrange power.

Aah, good catch. The Mod VP requires over 100+ octane, the EFI and OS get by on 90, now I know why.

And contrary to popular belief, the MOD-VP carb engines put out more horsepower than the EFI engines. They were around 265 crankshaft HP, but I see posts here, all the time listing the EFI with more. This is for from the factory engines, not the ones modified by someone after leaving Mercury.
