You can bet those guys thought they were on the ragged edge while screaming across the water at... what do you think? 40mph?? 45 maybe?

It just goes to show that it's not so much the speed but teh competition and teh relativity of how fast you are used too...

Very cool. I wonder why the middle boat driver was edited? I am thinking he did not want his picture taken getting his butt whooped by an OMC and was giving the finger

Were they good/safe ones?

........of course, at 45 MPH it wouldn't need to be but so strong.

I think it does have 2 wheels, it must be so that you can still drive it while you are fixing it. I had a boat with one of those OMC's on it when I was a kid and all I ever did was fix it.

The boat must have handle real well because he is able to take one hand off the wheel to play with the 8 track player.

Yea He must be digging out the tape out of the 8-track,It must of ate his Patsy Cline tape

They hadn't even dreamed of 8 track tapes when those pics were made. The V75 Johnson is a 1960 model. I remember seeing an old Feathercraft with an OMC that had two steering wheels like that. It had the shifter/throttle up front just like this boat, but had a tiller handle still on the motor so when driven from the rear there was access to throttle from there too. I think it had a 35 on it.

I've gotta find a 1960 model V75 Johnson. I thought it was about as much of a milestone motor as the Merc 1000 in '62.

I'm thinkin' that Merc in the middle is lappin' the other ones (probably for the 2nd or third time)

i had a 75 seahorse just like the on in the pict on a ski boat . thats cool stuff

The jacket of choice then was Gentex. Lifeline came along later. Every one form the slowest class to the fastest were required to run the same jacket. Notice that these were flatbottom boats. The V-75 and inline Merc would run in the 65 range. With a 200 lb driver the whole rig including driver was about 600 lbs.
