250efi merc lifespan?
I was wondering,I have a 2000 efi 250merc, what is the average lifespan of these motors, and is it worth spending the money for a rebuilt powerhead, when they wear out or is it better to just repower? the previous owner used yamalube and I am using citgo premium plus oil.the motor has about 350 hours on it, and it runs good, but uses a lot of oil ,1 gallon of oil to 33gallons of fuel.any thoughts?

the question you have asked is a little general. the lifespan one can expect to aquire from a 2 stroke engine of any size or brand depends on quite a few variables.
is it a fishing mota or a ski mota or race mota.
at what rpm is or has the mota been used mostly.
has the mota been used in fresh or salt water.
has the mota been flushed properly & regulary.
has the mota been properly & regulary maintained ( serviced ).
has a high quality oil & fuel been used by the mota.
theese are just a couple to start with.
i have seen engines crap em selves after 50 hrs of use & even less & then again i have seen other engines complete 1300hrs of use & they are still running ok .
the average life of most engines ( and i mean average ) is around 500 hrs
some have needed rings earlier & some have not..
having said all this at the end of the day the lifespan of any machinery depends on how you use it & how you maintain it.

Check the computer and see if it has been run hot.If it has not been run hot treat it like it was 11k$ and hope for 1500 hours before any loss of compression or big failure.Mercury Premium Plus oil.LOTS of gas $.
