Car seats in a Boat
Hi All,
Who is running car seats in a boat?
I'm thinking of Hi back race car style seats but not aluminum Kirkeys more like composite backed FIA recaro style seats.
What are you guys using?
Did you have them recovered in vinyl or just leave them in cloth?
I'm looking for something that looks good in a boat, can take the pounding of a 100 mph offshore cat, and doesn't cost megabucks.
Whatcha got?

my boat is too low for car seats.
Can the seats handle moisture?Car seats can be nice,as far as a ride.
How long can they last in a boat with the water splashing on them?

Look at the seats in the MTI on the post about Miami!
Those look like marine fabric covered automotive seats.

Those are certainly not automotive seats in the MTI - they are fiberglass shells.

I understand they are not, but they favor automotive racing seats in Style.

I've noticed that alot of the "rich folk" offshore boats from the Miami show have extremely small cockpits. I realize they were built to go very fast and be "seen" in......but they seem to be very impractical for the average boater. Anybody else noticed this....

Hey, don't hijack the thread.
The seats in the MTI are along the lines of what I'm talking about. Aan FIA seat is a hard shell seat that does not need to be braced to the rollcage in a racecar like an Aluminum seat because the shell won't break.
I don't have MTI money, those boats start around $400,000 and push a million bucks.
I'm talking about that style but on a top raman budget.
and cover them in vinyl to match the rear bench...

The new Fountain 42' Poker Run version uses Sparco race car seats. They use the shells. I am doing the same thing in my MTI. MTI use their own molded seat. I am going with a more extreme seat with the Recaro's. The shell was painted to match the boat and the cover is done in silver carbon fiber look vinyl. It is hot!! Picture is the seat not yet completed. Lot's of work to do to make it fit.
So my vote is the race car seats weigh much less, are very comfortable and look outstanding.
I do have a red pair for sale http://forums.screamandfly.com/forum...032#post842032Last edited by Brad Zastrow; 02-26-2006 at 05:10 PM.

Dregsz, Be careful of the seats like the ones in the Ebay item. Many times if the back is covered in fabric it is because the construction is aluminum tube frame. Not very strong.

sparco seats
I used sparco evo 3 seats in my redline cat.
I had them recovered. very comfortable.
Same seat that skater put in the new 24' twin 2.5.
