1973 Vintage Bezoat Hydroplane, Mercury Mark 55H and Custom Trailer

1973 D Class Bezoat Hydo, Mercury Mark 55H and custom trailer for sale. This boat was owned and raced by Doug Kay in the 80's and 90's. If the name Doug Kay is not familiar, for the last 20 years he was one of the best rebuilders and restorers of vintage Mercury racing engines in North America. He passed away a few months ago. I bought the hydro and trailer from him in 2005. The boat has never been damaged / repaired and is like new with a perfect coat of clear epoxy top and bottom.. The only issue is that the wood on the top deck is a little cloudy in spots. Doug thought that perhaps there was some moisture in the plywood when it was coated. The custom aluminum work inside and outside of the transom is amazing. The boat comes with full rigging making it ready to race or play with, or just use it as an amazing display boat and motor. Doug said it ran 85 mph on a good day with the 55H he ran on it. I consigned Doug to build me the 55H that is on it now in 2007. It started off as a stock 1956 Mark 55 but is factory correct as a 55H in every way and brand new in every detail down to the baked enamel paint. All NOS block and internals and every screw, nut, wire, bushing bearing etc. top to bottom is new. There are 45 test minutes on the engine. I have a CD showing it running in a test tank. I had it painted Sunset Orange to match the decals on the boat. There is not a single mark or scratch on the engine. A correct, restored vintage 3 1/4 gallon gas tank is included with the rig. The trailer was built for the boat and is in excellent condition with title / ownership, almost new tires, great bearings and all lights working. Let me know if you have any questions. Reasonably priced at $5,000.00 US. I also have this advertised locally. Not sure where you could find another rig like this. Located about 150 miles NE of Buffalo in Ontario, Canada. I may be able to assist with getting the boat to the Canadian side of the border. Ask for John

It seems I've forgotten how to upload pictures, so happy to do so if someone can remind me how - or email me at: john.kutcy@gmail.com and I can send you as many pictures as you want if you are interested.

    That’s beautiful.
If I had the space, I’d put that in my lounge room!

    Nice catch!

    Agreed on price.

Dave, Bezoats we’re probably after your time but ruled everything when I started.
The arrival of the pickelforks knocked them off their perch.

Their build quality was the best.

Great offering at at a very fair price, IMO.

Only way I could own it and put in my man cave is, light it up and see what she’ll do first

I would guess mid 70’s though.

In that era, the DSH kilo record was 83.

Thanks for the comments. BTW, those are not gas lines. They are factory correct air vent lines running to the mag and distributor cap.

In answer to one of the questions I got, I have a video of the 55H running after final assembly but I can't upload it to this post. For anyone wanting to see it running, send me an email at john.kutcy@gmail.com and I'll send you a copy. Gotta love the sound of revving new race engine!

Doug told me it ran low to mid 80's on a good day. One other person who responded to my post suggested more likely mid 70's. So, reality is likely somewhere in between. Either way, pretty fast for driving on your knees a few inches above the water.
