Took a while to download just these——- they’re all in hi-def, so you’ve all got permission from me to use them any way you want.
Thank you all my friends from the OFF crowd——- I had a great time with you all.
Looks to me like the OFF society is on the wane—— can’t see it lasting more than a couple of more years——- a lot of us won’t make it again and I don’t see many of the younger old farts joining.
Its a great pity really, because at the end of the day——— I think the old farts helped the antique road show —— and vice versa.

Its kinda the Darth Vader Of F1 ——- saw it a couple of times last year before it disappeared!
Understand Timmy has it sold to a young up and coming driver——— but he needs quite a few lessons in “How-To” before he’s let loose on the circuit.
Incidentally —— Timmy does have another one tucked away——- waiting for the right person and the right time!
I think Mike Mullins should put a Caldwell on its bum——- stick it in a museum labelled “What might have been.
At $30,000—— it’s less than a third of the price of a DAC or a BABA !

Don’t know now how many of you have seen the trophy room at Gieco Racing——- they even have the HAUSER TROPHY——— Jim commissioned me to do that one for the OFF people——— I Wonder how it comes to be at Gieco!
Must ask Gary sometime, how it comes to be there?

I bet that if you go under your workbench and dust off all those old trophys of yours you could put more together than that.

Nah Steve, at one time there’s was over 300, but I gave em all away—— some to relatives—some to Boy Scout movements—— some to golf clubs—- probably a couple of dozen under the bench somewhere !
Trophies are only good on the day——- dust collectors after that——- unless it’s the “DUCHESSS” or something like that, — and they have to go back anyway?
Theres a couple more rooms at Gieco full of trophies——— most of them are the hideous four poster plastic nonsense, much favoured by the Colonials! Cheap and nasty, but striking!
If you ever won a European cup—— they were mostly silver—-or glass—— but always, they were works of art !

I always fancied doing a concept of this one——- Tony Fahay——- northern lad—- always reminded me of Guy Martin for some strange reason.
Used to do bit of circuit racing with a RUDE —-
Was well thought of up at the Windermere club——
Used Norman Buckley’s MISS WINDERMERE hydro’s a few times.
Always promised a lot—— don’t remember how much he delivered.

Really is quite wierd ——- my mate Hawkeye posted a piccie of a flat four diesel motor that Ilmor are in the process of developing!
My first impressions were of a VEE DUBB German horizontally opposed flat four or a LYCOMING aircraft engine——- what’s wrong with that I ask myself?
Frowned upon by the boffins——— no- no-no -no—— much more advanced than either of those—- technically far superior!
Some quite clever engineers joined in the “ discussion”—- talking way above my pay grade, but nonetheless in circles——- by that I mean —— we were going nowhere !!!
Then my grandson Craig steps in with——- “You didn’t really expect anything positive from grandad did you”
Craig—— you should get on with your knitting—- you have ten day’s to get your quad engined Donzi forty four tunnel up and running—— tested and dialled in. Or , you forfeit the bet I have with you !
You don’t have time to even read about a damned flat four Diesel engine——- let alone comment on My reactions.
Saddens me, I didn’t get the respect of my point of view, or the backing of my own grandson !
I still don’t think Craig will have the boat ready and tested by Christmas!——— but then—— rightly or wrongly——— that’s my “OPINION “ !

IS THE WORLD REALLY ROUND ???? I’m not the one to ask Pilgrim—— I’m just an old racer who knows a little, trying to grow older gracefully———- but without much success!

I'll bite at this one. Tony had a valiant attempt, Ron Wolbold of Blufin boats built him what was expected to be a lowish speed test craft to prove the design and he had some well respected aero / engineers helping the team. Unfortunately the project got compressed somewhat and a Sponsor called Roevin modified the test craft to attempt the record by placing some substantial steel reinforcement, a breakaway capsule, water brakes etc in the hull. Ron told me he actually cried when he saw it. A tad overweight when launched it looked more like a submarine and ultimately failed as there was no funds available to continue.

That must have been the boat he took over to the OMC factory in Brugge in 1975/76 Paul Kalbe had him over to fit the latest OMC 2.0litre race engine of that time.I never got to see the boat run but the story was when he did his high speed run the boat just took off and went that high that Paul Kalbe asked him if he was flying it back to the UK.We never saw much of Tony on the race circuit after that maybe one or two races.
