Ethanol is good for boosting or super high SCR and also has better latent heat evaporation than gas but it is hydrophilic. IIRC the V8 rude that set the record ran methanol which is very similar to ethanol. If set up for it its a great fuel but olboatman is spot on its less energy dense so you need to flow a ton more of it to equal gas

Ethanol is a political fuel, it not only attracts water but attracts farmer votes as well. Another example of Government screwing up the free market.

The only people that like Ethanol are the farmers that get subsides for it.
Or as us working smucks see it, corporate welfare.

Ethanol was originally added to gasoline because of the shortage of oil. Back then there was a .10-.25 difference to get hi octane. Now it costs $1 per gallon and sometimes even more for hi octane with no ethanol.

Now we are actually producing so much oil that we are exporting it, and in record quantities. So why are we still adding ethanol to it? Why are we still subsidizing farmers for growing it?

LOL!!! Funny, the 30+ years I farmed I never got a subsidy for ethanol. Even when I grew corn.

You guys have it wrong. Those subsidies go to the ethanol plants and infrastructure for those plants, mixing pumps, etc.

Ethanol is an oxygenater that took the place of MTBE, a known carcinogen. Bad stuff to have in your water supply. It is fine as long as MTBE is burned, but put a jet ski, etc on the limiter and you then have it in the water.

Ya. Tell them how many gallons of water it takes to produce a gallon of ethanol....

… and by all accounts we are running out of drinkable water.

    None of it.

I'm just saying most people don't realize that it takes MORE water to produce ethanol than it does gasoline.

    Confirm or deny......

i never made the claim that you in particular recieved any subsidy for growing or not growing corn. But, it is happening. Was it about two years ago it was being pushed to up etanol in gas to 15%? Not profitable, but hey, lets bump it up 50%, right?

Not trying to argue, but it is too easy to follow the money trail here.

There is no subsidy for the farmers for growing corn for ethanol. There was (maybe still is ) one for the mixers. Farmers like it because it drives corn prices up.

When they built the plant down here, it was told it took 1 gallon of natural gas to make 1 gallon of ethanol.

Not according to the article I linked. 10 billion in 2017 alone. Tax breaks and incentives, subsidies come in many different forms

Again, not looking to start something, but natural gas is sold/calculated by weight, not volume.

Not saying farmers don't get subsidies, just not a subsidy for growing corn to be used in ethanol only.
