Lightbulb Fred Kiekhaefer reveals the backstory, on an iconic photo.

"Times are a Changin" Bob Dylan.

I do not think anyone in the 1960's at Lake X, would had foreseen this photo scene taking place in the distant future. The pioneer rivals getting together, and no less Mr. K, at an Evinrude press luncheon.

Fred Kiekhaefer said, His dad just opened an Evinrude dealership. He was seriously upset with Brunswick management.

In response to my questions, Fred reply was,"The dealership was RPM in Fond du Lac, WI.
He liked Jack Reichert when he became chairman, but that was it."

"Truth is stranger than fiction" Mark Twain.

Bob & Mark both of you are so correct, but my initial response is surprised.

The boat's name is my little sister's. Mom always said Mr. K liked her name seeing as she was born at the lake (actually she was born in a hospital in Orlando but we lived at the lake). Year's later I wish Dad had been allowed to use Roy's TOAST (Mom and us kid's initials). Love the picture - thanks FUJIMO

The man whose inspiratiion led to the establishment of Mercury Marine's Lake X.

    Gratitude to Mr. K.

His ambition gave many people employment. And changed the trajectory of a lot of people and their families, including my youth and family members (especially my dad, Roy Ridgell at Lake X).

15 race boats at Mercury Lake X in the mid 1960's.

This photo was taken before the Offshore building was built. The Offshore building is going to be where the mobile boat hoists are in the picture. The increase in outboard and sterndrive horsepower mounted on/in longer offshore boats, out-grew the original shop's space capacity.

Mr. FUJIMO - those are my sentiments exactly, others because they worked there, me because I lived there and everything my dad did was what I wanted to do. This is my favorite Lake X photo. N
ow your photo from post #1357
captures my Dad at the greatest time ever, living 100 feet from Mercury's European Racing Headquarters for 3 years was beyond words. Great photos both.

No one is in the Tower, forget the no-wake zone.
Wide-Open, lets go, were the only ones on the lake.
