Each 3/8 160-ksi bolt has clamp load of like 7000 lbs x 4 bolts/studs =28000 lbs with only one cylinder firing at a time, 12 Sq-in piston top area x cyl combution pressure which depends on level of perf i have heard around 1200psi mod performance? =15000 lbs so it works on paper but the bolts are getting spread out on the bigger bore. All abunch of BS but its interesting lol. Dave

these blocks are prof of concept for the 3.5L, if they need six, there is plenty of room to add 2 per cylinder, probably 4 per cylinder if you are running POP in your methanol...lmao.. they can easily be upgraded to 200,000ksi ARP studs and 7/16" 20tpi...

The blocks look really nice, I worked with alot of different fastener materials in the aerospace field , they used mostly inconel 718 -220ksi and some mp35N 260ksi bolts in high stress areas, both of these are bullet proof and don't corrode at all. h11 steel,17-22 and 8740 are strong but really bad around salt/water. Inconel and MP35N are both good choices...not cheap, but make great high temp/ corrosion resistant bolts...I think that carpenter supplies most of ARP's materials and I know they offer C625 as a 220ksi-ys upgrade for bolting solutions under high stress. Probably better at that point to just add studs between the cylinders...

I agree, and I use alot of arp for projects, the arp300 stainless is nice, 160 or 170ksi i think , not sure what that alloy it is they wouldn't tell me when i called them but i think its a286 another very popular aerospace grade, The custom 625 is getting popular but i haven't seen it in any of fastener guides from boeing, regular inconel 625 is not near as strong as the c625 is rated .. ARP is great but SPS supplies most airframe mfgs, I picked up some c625 rolled thread studs on ebay that fit perfect for my brp 3.3l heads, came from a dodge r6 nascar engine kit it also had 7/16 studs and nuts im using for the mains.. Another thing on arp, the generic studs they sell are all really meant for steel with 1-1.5xd on the coarse thread length, i know all the books say thats sufficient for steel or aluminum and the first few threads hold all the load but its bs for really high stressed parts, Maybe in a perfect world, i say 2 minimum 2-1/2 better. Wasn't the head bolt pattern redesigned at some point during the early life of 60 degree V6?

The bolt bosses were moved from being on the outside of the cylinder walls to the outer side of the water jacket. Probably so bolt torque didn't twist on the cylinder. But same odd design with the four pair of bolts right next to each other.

Never said it didn't work. But then 12 bolts really should be able to do the work of 8.
