I am not sure where the picture above is from. Cant be Sweden 1972 because Bob Hering was not racing there. I found it on my Svera.se forum.

Amsterdam .....
This is a fun photo for me, contains lots of 'people memories'. The first time I saw it I just checked the boat out and moved on. When I came across it a second time, something caused me to notice all of the people around the boat. I'm pretty sure this photo includes .....Renato Molinari (in forefront on lower left side, white Merc jacket & white pants), Jim Schunke (blue short sleeve shirt behind Renato), Gary Garbrecht (upper left corner, white Merc jacket with arm on leg). Standing on the little platform in front of the boat ..... Gene Treichel (white Merc jacket, left side), Jimmy Kubasta (white Merc jacket in the middle) and Levio Prada , one of my wife's favorite Italians , (wearing the colorful outfit on the right).
You all know who Renato is, Schunke was a powerhead specialist for the race team, Garbrecht was Race Director, Treichel did most of the boat rigging, Kubasta was the Mgr. of Hi Performance Products and Prada was a transport driver that hauled Renato's boats all over Europe. I've worked, traveled and played with all of those guys, good memories!

This is 1968 and in the photo you can see the big bladed prop. Renato is running in ON, so he has to be doing his balancing act on a 1250 BP. Looking at the boat numbers listed in the race program, they must have been assigned by the race promoters as they processed each entry.
He won the three hour marathon Saturday and raced some more Sunday so I'm guessing that someone sent him a solid driveshaft to replace the original rubber cushioned shaft and told Renato not to shift that unit under any circumstances. The BP was built and APBA approved with a F-N-R shiftable gearcase so that it was legal to run in the Family classes However, it didn't take long to find out that shifting them resulted in early failure. Additionally, prolonged running (marathons) would result in failure of the rubber driveshaft.Last edited by willabee; 02-01-2019 at 03:44 PM.
