    40 amp flywheel

Did mercury make a light weight 40 amp (red) flywheel for a 2000 model 225 promax?

Never seen a PM come with a red flywheel especially a 2000. They were black cast iron.
Red flywheels with bigger magnets like the black cast iron were in 80's 40amp system if I remember correctly.
Like mentioned above they were not much lighter and only small advantage was the flex plate. What I also found a down side was the cooling, not enough holes for venting to properly cool with higher rpms.
Also as mentioned J Dunn did make some but had issues not sure he is still making them.
Brendan Powers was making some real nice ones, not sure he got them completed, he was close and testing. Have not spoken to him lately.
These 2 below I swapped out I while ago.

I had just got rid of a red one few days ago and it was heavy, cant imagine the black one being much heavier, dnt believe u would ever know the difference.

It was not much but yes a bit. Mercury just did not expect/recommend to spin them above 7000 like many of us do to the 225Promax.
If that cast iron is out of balance in anyway it really hurts the upper crank bearing longevity.

So is the 16amp just not sufficient for the PM? I know I've seen few 16s on PM but may have had vst delete , so will 16 run stock PM if your not runnin bunch of graphs and stuff?

Yep but you’ll have to change stator and the rear voltage regulators to a rectifier system , the 16 high performance system have a limited battery charge capacity.

Yes, it is sufficient enough as long as you do not run lots of electrics. many of us run 16amp wether it is a stock OEM or some proven after market flywheel.
Like mentioned above you will need to change some electrics and wiring, not hard to do to properly setup the 16amp system.
It can be done a few ways. Best advise I can personally give you and what I have found that copying the 245/260 setup has worked well for me.
I personally run 16amp on my own setups but like to plug the tender on when sitting home because it will sit a couple of weeks at a time to keep things up to par. Everyone has their own opinion on how to best do it.
