and nother thing 'bout tha "over heat" problem.. it has tha sensor, does tha buzzer work?. ya goin' by a "gauge" that ya have no idea if its accurate or not.. get yourself a heat gun and be sure what ya seein'.. QUITE WITH ALL THIS GUESSIN CRAP... we're ona computer and have no idea whats really goin' on.... jmo
with that plate it may not need a dump ta get tha right pressure and coolin''.. I've done that before with tha early BP plate...
.. it does have tha fittin for water pressure on it.. whats tha pressure read?Last edited by tlwjkw; 07-23-2019 at 05:12 AM.

I agree need to confirm buzzer and do you have a water pressure gauge?

sorry, but ya know what i'm sayin'.. jus get tired a seein' folks "not readin' tha whole thread" before jumpin' in tha mix with "this is that" or "that is this" when ya have no clue ona computer screen.... ya gotta get ya hands dirty first..... rant over.

Yes.... I also get what you saying about the possibility of the BP 1pc plate having the 4 smaller dump holes!
I actually like them for the PM setup.

yeah, ya never know with tha one piece stuff.. tha very first 245/260 ('90/'91's) were notorious with what kinda pressure, coolin' you would end up with.. straight outta tha box!

I’ll have to buy a compression tester. How many PSI should it run at? Sorry for all the questions. I’ve very new to all of this. Kind of over my head. Thought it was a good motor when I bought it. May put this one in the shop and get another bass boat. Maybe a fish n ski. Definitely gonna keep this one though. Really like it. Just gotta work out all the kinks.

don't give up on it.. its probably jus fine.. ran it for 25 minutes and it didn't explode!.. ya jus need ta get tha right questions answered is all.. like tha heat deal.. water pressure.. compression and such.. 140 (92/93 works here) and below will be a startin' place.. if its like most that old and no recent rebuild 115 and above will be good... if it does indeed have tha "tight heads" no tellin' what ya gonna get.. all should be reasonably close in numbers.. comp gauges can be a problem, even new.. sometimes they are not that accurate.. it helps if you can get access to a "known good gauge" or to more than one gauge for a comparison...
jus gonna take a little time ta make sure your confident in it..... all were NEW ta this stuff at sometime or another so don't fret 'bout that!.

Thank ya man! I think I’m gonna check the compression, get a new temp gauge and go from there. I’m thinkin it’s gotta be highly inaccurate. Usually an overheated engine is gonna loose some power. At least from my experience with cars and such. Mine never lost any. Maybe outboards don’t do that I don’t know. Also, the gauge went from about 1/4 to in between half and 3/4 in a matter of seconds. Even after sitting and fishing for 20 minutes or longer. Shouldn’t heat up that fast even if something is seriously wrong should it?

there is a sensor on tha starboard head with one wire comin' out of it.. trace it down to where its terminated under a screw on a plastic block or it may have a bullet connector on it.. if that's tha case unplug it and grond tha "harness side of tha connector.. key on, ground that screw (or connector, which ever applies) with a jumper of sorts.. you should get a constant alarm (buzzer) ta go off.. that's tha over temp alarm... got a lot more confidence in it over any unproven gauge anyday...

I definitely will! And also want to thank everyone for the helpful answers! I’ve seen a few let’s just call them “buttheads” on here on some different threads. Y’all are real helpful! If anything major ever happens hopefully me and Tom can meet up on day and get that thing rockin. I’m getting one of those storage containers today so I can start the boat outta the lake. My dad brought to my attention that a wire for the gauge could’ve came loose so I’m gonna trace them down and see what’s goin on and maybe that’s all that’s wrong.

You've got a 2.5-3 million BTUH fire going in a 30 lb aluminum pot. You better believe it'll heat up in seconds if cooling fails.
To fish or not to fish? What a STUPID question.

Bout how long is it gonna take for water to start shooting out of the tell-tale? Started it up a few minutes ago. Only had it running bout a minute and a half and water was dripping out but not how it should. Last time I had it at the lake water was going pretty good
