Important little piece to have as Chris stated. You also want to check rubber seal is in good condition or purchase a new one, they are under $10
I use an shorten old broom handle with one end turned down to the ID of seal to reinstall.

use "red" on it when ya tap it back in.. they are sometimes prone ta pull out when ya pull a gear case and that will bring out a whole lotta bad words when ya go ta put tha gear case back on..... that's why Tux built his "special tool" ...

54196A6 --CARRIER ASSEMBLY
Always wondered why it was called that because its a Crank Shaft to Drive shaft Grease seal. I keep two handy all the time. I also use red Loctite around the lip when I install them in the crank. They are notorious for coming loose and dropping if not properly installed or dropping a lower. And definitely a generous supply of a Good grade marine grease applied to the Drive shaft splines before reinstalling the power head or lower.Last edited by HStream1; 07-14-2019 at 08:06 AM.
