Noisy Turtles Harley's that is
just got done listening to 3 days of noisy turtles going by the house the harley ride
i am still amazed how loud and slow they are i get that some actually put the right parts in the bike to make them fast
which is real cool but the majority throw drag pipes only to go slower and make a ton of noise i would be embarrassed if my ride rattled windows but could not get out of its own way
much less beat a prius in a drag race lol

Must have had a event up there,. so it aint a daily thing. Been on HD's all my life and I LIKE IT! There just like us, simple gearheads that love the heart beat sound of a HD. Or any motor (boat). Don't go getting old on us!

Been ridin for a long time but it seems to be getting more dangerous lately. Old bike had the drag pipes and couldn't get out of it's own way. Current bike has had about everything done to it and still be tame enough to ride on the street. Running Reinhardts and love the sound. Only bike I would own other than a Harley would be a Valkrye and some day I will.

Yep
They do nothing for me either.
Normally I only notice them when they're raising hell where I'm (and those around me) are enjoying the solitude.
Used to ride my 1000cc Hurricane to the biker bar by the house in Fla when one day a guy on another Honda asked why I didn't have a Harley like everyone else there.
Told him when I want a loud, slow, non handling, unreliable bike I'll buy one.
To each his own.
Lived there nine yrs and every six months someone died on a scooter on that stretch of US 1.
Was always a Harley rider w/no helmet.
Every time.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Far from slugs, as witness any NHRA Pro Stock bike race. Of course none are not stock even the Susys (S+S does sell there race motors), but many V-Rod based Hines, S+S, Buell, Victory, and the few Susys. Or go Nitro HD and quit messing around!
Rather listen to this than jap sewing machine motor...

Wanna be race bike explains a lot of the tractor riders with straight pipis. Wanna be. Same goes for outboards.

I like guys that stop at a light beside your car w/open windows and you have to close them to keep from going deaf.
The worst is then seeing that guy get off his bike and remove his ear plugs!
On the Pro Stock bikes, Harley wrote a huge check to the NHRA to get 2500ccs displacement while the Jap inline 4's get 1500ccs.
A 67% advantage.
I would have rather seen a vee twin class w/weight breaks based on heads/valves like the "Battle of the Twins" in AMA road racing.
I like the twins but to try and say they're equal to, better than an inline 4 is lunacy.Last edited by Instigator; 09-22-2018 at 09:23 AM.

gotta like the sound of a v motor ,also the sound of a twin or inline 4 with a 270degree crank.
my v4 VFR turned 20 this summer ,wouldnt trade it for anything. recently been lusting for a Triumph Thruxton 1200r to add to the collection...my v twin is in my can am utv ,it thumps!LTB OLDGUY

Lets not go down that path "us VS them" If its 2 wheel's "all brothers in the wind" to me.
On NHRA? 2 different motors, short stroke and long stroke. Its piston speed limits. BOTH create same HP, as super close in a 1/4 drags.
Been riding 63 years, and don't think any I aint owned or rode over the decades. Old Henderson 4 cylinders, Indian Chiefs, left hand throttle, Foot clutch HDs, Vespa's, Cushman, the beginning Jap bikes, the Brit bikes, Italian, name it. Raced Motos, Ice, Flat track, Road course, and many CC month long CC rides. Few pix..
Who said ya can only have one anyway? CBR1000F, Shovel, Bagger, Drag bike..
How about big to small?
Leave ya with this. And the story. Was in the auto parts store, and saw this for $100. Had to get it! So home, and hear a Harley pull up in front. My buddy Tommy. He walks in the shop, come look what I bought! I go look, and said gotta see what I just bought! HA! We were gonna take him and me in tow at the Christmas Toy Run but too long a ride my old back a tow!
Last Pic me and Tommy. Me and him always had a ball riding! He was Power Company Lineman, tough job, but he never complained anything. Funny as they come, not a enemy in the world. I would change his oil, look the bike over and put 100 miles on test ride! He didn't care! One time left a good burn out the shop, and showed him when he came to pick it up! Its still there, but fading. Tommy 6 weeks before hitting 62 and retire, hit got hit with Pancreatic Cancer, died week before his BDay. RIP "Tommy Two shoes"....miss ya buddy...

Off in the distance when you hear a vtwin climbing the ladder, can always tell HD from the rest. If you hear a big ci motor like SS even heavier. The 150 needs a trailer and bags.

lol,it's kinda like the fat chick thing, fun but you dont want to get caught riding it.
actually ,small bikes are taking over in this area, stopped in at a few motorcycle shops recently & was told that most sales are small displacement .there is a "cult" of the Groms & other little 2 wheelers these days.the gy6 powerplant has a large following & many upgrades available.not a bad thing as young ,new riders can learn the ropes on these smaller bikes instead of a GSXR 1000 as their first motorcycle & we all know what the outcome of that is....Last edited by gary slagle; 09-23-2018 at 09:11 AM.
