Looking good bob, that will be one strong rebuild.... The real fun begins removing all the old foam from the sponsons.... I found if you start in one spot and get down to the hull you can than use a flat crowbar to pry it up in chunks.. A drywall saw also helps.

Didnt read this thread until tonight and your past it but if you had wanted to remove the plywoood from that pad would a router set to the right depth have worked well? Just use the router to eat it up.

Deameanor, thanks for checking out the thread. I never thought about the router idea, that would probably do the trick... after a bunch of back and forth questioning, and im sure not everyone will agree I ended up deciding to leave the wood planking in the pad. it was in perfect shape once i got all the old crap out of the boat. I did some research, originally i thought "who the hell Half Assed my boat" by putting wood planking in the pad instead of balsa.... but i guess its more of a "old school" boat builder thing. It doesn't rot like balsa, The pad can really take a beating and it has no flexing issues if done right.. so if your hull is blueprinted i guess its not a bad thing. i cant tell you the exact type of wood it is, but its not really plywood... its some type of planking? strips.

Well I have the foam out, to my disappointment there was only a little bit of the core wet on the drivers side, probably from the spot where my old speedo pickup was and got tore off years ago and the passenger side was completely dry, but I will be replacing it all as long as I have it apart. A person just don't know till you get it apart!!

definitely not wasted effort bob, now you know for sure what was in your sponsons. that was my biggest thing.... I wondered what was in mine for years. now that can be crossed off the list. are you putting ribs in or going with foam?

my garage warmed up to about 50 degrees so I finally started on my stringers. I have the tank, and seat boxes figured out... next will be where to mount my trim pump and battery. I can then coat all the wood in resin, before the glasswork in the spring. I also made some drain plugs out of SS for the sponsons.

Made some progress on mine too. I have the core back in the sponsons and the floor glassed down.

Unreal!!... your putting me to shame here bob. last week it was -10 here so I wasn't even going to try haha. the boat is looking awesome. the recessed tank was a great idea. That must have took some careful measuring. that's also quite the rotary setup you have there for the boat. great work!!

    p.s. nice drain plugs

I missed this thread until now. I love the ride of my YT compared to a Vee bottom VKing I used to have. Here's a video of mine with a 2.4 225. Nice job with the rebuilds!
